We grew up hearing this guy’s name on TV, but here’s the sad news out of California from the AP:
Jack LaLanne, the fitness guru who inspired television viewers to trim down and pump iron for decades before exercise became a national obsession, died Sunday. He was 96. LaLanne died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia Sunday afternoon at his home in Morro Bay on California’s central coast, his longtime agent Rick Hersh said.
“I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for,” Elaine LaLanne, Lalanne’s wife of 51 years and a frequent partner in his television appearances, said in a written statement.
Check out the video above which shows Jack at 95-years old still working out as hard as ever.

May he rest in peace…
It’s sad to hear. Maybe he can get the pushup record in Heaven now.
damn. rest in peace.
I thought he died a few years agao. Anyway..RIP. It’s a blessing to be able to live to see your 90′s and still be living an independent vibrant life, full of energy, and caring for yourself. He was lucky!!
R.I.P. – I’m going to work out hard so that I can still be in shape when I get that old. Most people his age in that video would be in a wheelchair or barely able to move around but he’s still going strong.
