We thought this was a good call but now the student is catching some flack. Here’s the report out of Iowa:
The Cedar Rapids Gazette newspaper reported Thursday morning that a wrestler facing a match with a girl has decided to forfeit his match.Linn-Mar Athletics Director Scott Mahmens told the Gazette that 112-pound Joel Northrup will forfeit his opening round match. He was scheduled to wrestle Cassy Herkelman, Iowa’s first female state qualifier. Mahmens released a statement Thursday morning about his decision.
“I have a tremendous am ount of respect for (Cassy) and (Megan) and their accomplishments,” said Northrup in the news release. “However, wrestling is a combat sport and it can get violent at times. As a matter of conscience and my faith, I do not believe it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner. It is unfortunate that I have been placed in a situation not seen in most other High School sports in Iowa.”

now what if they were wrestling and his finger somehow slipped in somewhere it wasnt suppose to hell i have seen it happen to dudes, remember the one that was charged with sexual ass-ault a few months back, yeah dude did right he might be in jail right now if he had done it.
He pussied out. I live in cedar rapids and people have been giving this story too much hype. It’s wrestling, you’re her first opponent to forfeit. Suck it up and wrestle. She”s been wrestling dudes all season and now it’s a problem? gtfoh. Dude didn’t want to lose to a girl at a state wrestling match.
