According to the press release posted on the Thatsabortion.com site:
A billboard that reads, “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb,” has been placed in the heart of SoHo by Life Always™ as a part of a new national campaign to expose the truth about how Planned Parenthood targets minority neighborhoods as they perform over 300,000 abortions a year. This particular billboard is about half a mile from a Planned Parenthood abortion facility. Life Always board member Stephen Broden said that Planned Parenthood has had a devastating effect on the sustainability of the African American population.

It sure is offensive.
Anti-abortion groups always try to shock. That’s why we have to see fetuses on billboards and all the other shit. It’s ridiculous and offensive. This billboard gives them press and helps to get their message across. That’s all they are trying to do, and they don’t care if they offend anyone.
I am a black male and NO, I don’t find it offensive. Especially when the facts are alarmingly true. Black American females have more abortions in this country, than any other race.
and they also have more unprotected sex than any other race
you know what’s offensive? its that abortion is LEGAL. Its a woman’s right to CHOOSE what she wants for HER BODY. And to be PUBLICLY HUMILIATED because of that is absolutely ridiculous.
Also, abortion is NOT A RACE ISSUE. And you know why white people don’t have abortions at the same rate as minorities its because access to healthcare & education is not the same.
I’m sick of these people with their b.s. ideology. Abortion is LEGAL. get over it. geez.
I totally agree, GB.
You are completely right GB it is not a Race issue it is a economic issue.
Amen!
EDUCATION… Really!!! Are you telling me black children of today aren’t aware that by having sex they can get pregnant, or contract a sexually transmitted disease? MTV, BET, 106 and Park, teachers, magazines, news stories, countless of people warning young folks of the same story, family and friends aren’t enough to convince young black children that with having sex there comes great responsibility. It has nothing to do with Education but with pure ignorance. I am sorry to be so harsh on my own beautiful people but I am getting sick of protecting the ignorant. The consequences of having sex have always been there since the beginning of time. Facts are Facts.
I know abortion is LEGAL but the facts still remain the same, young black woman have abortion at a high alarming rate. It has nothing to do with education and healthcare… Kids know that by having sex there is a risk of pregnancy, and/or STD. Every corner store sells condoms and 75% of young people are aware of “Planned Parenthood” which offers free birth control. Its hard to educate a hard head and ignorance. Kids know that guns kill, using or selling drugs are wrong but clearly SOME young black children still don’t listen to the warnings.
“It has nothing to do with Education but with pure ignorance.”
Do you hear what you are saying? Ignorance is the exact opposite of education.
I am a black teenager, and I have a close friend waiting for pregnancy results because she thought if he “pulled out” and she didn’t “get off” she wouldn’t get pregnant.
By your logic, it is a race issue. Race and economics are intertwined and complex. Go read some post-colonial literature before you start making statements like that. You obviously don’t know what you are talking about.
i have to agree with GB. our youth need to be educated on the facts and realize that making the decision to have sex involves a heck of a lot more in the end. regrets, std’s and abortion to name a few. its not to be used as a form of birth control.
I agree with you GB
Omg this is so crazy I don’t believe it!! Sad and offensive. U don’t hv to point out a race to get ur point across.. Abortion exists deal with it
Abortion is legal. GET OVER IT!
It offensive. Point blank. We all know abortion exists but theres no need to throw race cards. The plan was to shock and gain publicity any way how. And they accompplished that. Congratulations… Idiots. :-/
Yes, it is offensive!! I find it strange that a race of people who only represent about 14% of the entire population is always being singled out as having the highest rates of the most deadliest diseases and every other disadvantage that you can think of. This type of propaganda doesn’t help us psychologically. All it does is causes fear and further instills the notion that we are less than everyone else. I refuse to just accept anything thrown out there as a “fact” without verifying the source of the info. I need to know what methodologies were used, how many people were included in the research, what areas was the research conducted in, did the research include information on private patients who see private doctors, and what other resources were used to arrive at their conclusion.
You have a great point! I agree with u 100%
A very good point. Made very eloquently. Good job.
Kwestionz ,love your feedback! Thank you!
it’s not offensive because it’s true.
i was a highly recruited high school athlete so went away to boarding school to play ball. all white kids except for the ball players and let me tell you sex at boarding school was crazy. the white girls there were all on birth control though and would tell you that their parents put them on it as soon as possible because to them pregnancy is NOT an option.
contrast that with coming home for the summer. black girls were not on birth control. so it was just condoms and niggas can jedi-mind-trick a broad into letting him hit raw. it’s similarly frowned upon to have these illegitimate births so these black girls are having abortions.
so the difference is – reproductive health is managed better in populations where the families are well-adjusted. in black families without familial structure or proper support, black girls and young women are left to fend for themselves. this is symptomatic of a larger issue.
i can speak honestly. i’ve had unprotected sex with black girls/women, white girls/women, hispanic girls/women, and asian girls/women from high school till now in my mid 20s. *shrugs* don’t look at me like that – i like the ladies. All races would ask for condoms but you can jedi mind trick em, right? you nut up in a white chick and she’s like it’s cool – i’m on the pill. You nut up in an asian chick and she’s like, “it’s cool, birth control all day every day.” hispanic and black women will let you nut raw knowing they aren’t on the pill – so you know that “late” call is coming in less than a month if you have super sperm, like i do.
the point is, rather than caring about the airing of dirty laundry, shouldn’t we ask about the social conditions that make the management of reproductive health so anathema in black communities? i’m glad somebody aired it out cuz black leaders aren’t talking about it.
focus people.
i think you dont have to point out a specific race to get the point across .. i mean thats just harsh
Interesting point but I must disagree. It is funny how before abortions were legal and birth control wasn’t as accepted (i.e. 1950’s) the main women getting abortions were white women that could afford them. I wonder if they had billboards such as the one in question that read “The most dangerous place for a Caucasian child…”
Side note: if you’re running up into all these women raw perhaps there should be a billboard in your honor that reads, “The most dangerous place for a pussy is with this dick (your dick).”
You basically pointed out the problem. Girls from affluent families (or these days, middle class families) have more access to birth control pills and other birth control methods.
exactly.
now the question is why abortions are more available to our people than birth control pills. if we can solve that problem, then this issue is in the rearview mirror, no?
I agree.. abortion but no pills ! stop the problem before it gets there! I dont know if they’re using this method as a means of fuel to bring us further apart or what ?! The clinic offers free birth control, why that many people dont use it , I’m not sure. But I def agreee with you!
You started off with what sounded like a valid and astute point but then it veered into self congratulatory braggadocio and crassness, which ultimately distracted from what would of been a good point.
The real issue here, as it pertains to this ad, is that when it comes to making a point or making an easy profit, organizations and companies will target the African-American community by using controversial subjects, backed by mysterious statistics, to paint the image that they want.
Race, social class, and education are all factors in this equation but the real ‘focus’ moment that’s being missed right now, is how we’re constantly used as examples of the ill’s for all those subjects.
I totally agree with you. Well said, well put. Black people are scape goats
I am black, I am offended however my first though was LOL.
Just keeping it real.
ditto.
These blacks bitches be trying to trap us niggas, so hell no it ain’t offensive.
Trap us so they can get abortions?! Wtf?
I wouldn’t say it’s offensive, but goddamn, it’s definitely more ammo for the bigots.
It’s interesting how some groups of people can never catch a break. If the teen pregnancy/birth rate spikes, black families are blamed for letting their children run wild, have unprotected sex and birth babies they can’t afford/raise themselves. On the flip, when the teen birth rates fall because pregnant teens chose abortions, it’s still a problem! “They” always find something to complain about.
it was kinda funny at first…but then I was all “ohhhhhhh!”
You damn right it is offensive. I’m trippin because the billboard is in Soho. Didn’t try that blatant racist foolery in Brooklyn or Harlem though huh?…cause Black women wouldn’t have stood for that ish! The bottom line is that Black women and girls have the most abortions because we have the least amount of access to education, the least amount of contraception to choose from, the least amount of access to good healthcare and are not as reproductively competent as some of the men commenting think we are and obviously not to the bigots who put this billboard up! But then again, when did America start caring about Black babies? (I would say when did Black men start caring as well given the high rates of child support default in the Black race…but that would just be catty, huh?) When I was a slave, this America bred me to build this country…now you care about my Black baby???…please! You only care about deeping your pockets and using my womb AGAIN to help you get your money. Planned Parenthood ain’t the pink elephant in the room, nor is Margaret Sanger…this suggestive billboard with no cultural competency in the Black culture and the Black Woman’s struggle and how AMERICA played her part in leaving us out there to dry…is. Take responsibility for Black girls not being educated all you right wing conservative, church going, Mass leading, money hungry politicians, priests, and even some of you dumb ass Black people who deny your own people’s victimization cause you hungry for position and money with people who WILL drop you after their cause is fulfilled…all of you NEED JESUS…since you trying to pimp Him and drive a wedge in the Black family with this nonsense.EVERYBODY ain’t fooled…trust.
Um….church!
Let the church say Amen…..Amen!
What she just said…. WORD!
it’s true
i guess black people are to blame for this now that MTV is airing teen mom and most of them are white. so its ok to be a white teen mom because most black women are having abortions…..this world is hell of earth i tell you.
Why the hell do they care if we having abortions or not, aint these the same right wing republican jacka$$es who are in favor of the death penalty. All they mad about is that our babies didnt grow up so that they could lock em in jail, put em on death row and kill them themselves. We beat you to it motha effas HA HA
Sorry but white kids are too busy getting high and coked out to even have a high enough sperm count to even get a bitch preg! And all in all, people think abortions are a form of BC! Negative idiots!
I dont like how everyones excuse is that African Americans have more abortions because they are uneducated. You can ask any child from middle school age up and they will tell you “Having unprotected sex, leads to babies”. Siting under education is a cop-out. It is the parents responsibilites to protect their children at school age. When you become an adult it is up to you to protect yourself. The real culprit is IRRESPONSIBILITY!
“Having unprotected sex, leads to babies”.
So that is all the education we need to prevent having abortions or unwanted babies? So I guess you believe in the “Just say ‘no’” method of preventing drug addiction.
Simple.
He11 yeah I believe in the “just say no ” philosophy. If you dont take the drug, you wont get addicted to it. He11 it worked for me all these years. What the He11 you been smoking????
Love you overitin2011 lol

I am an African-American female and mother and it’s not offensive. It’s a wake up call! Stop killing our babies. Think about it – abortions in the AA community while the “other” communities are getting fertility treatments.
Girl boo bye. As a Black Woman you should be offened just based on the tag line alone – no matter what your beliefs on abortion are.
But on you belief ahem…
Did you really just type out Stop Killing our babies? Girl stop. IMO it is better for a woman to have an abortion then to be raised in fostercare, poverty, ignorance and a single parent house-hold (yeah I said that one too).
Damn, 300,000 abortions a year! WTF is going on? Stop making excuses and get it together.
The stats don’t highlight abortions by other cultures that are being done in private facilities so in the great words of Chuck D… “Don’t believe the Hype….”
I still don’t get it! Would you rather have 300,000 unwed teenage mothers instead?? Yeah, the method is unconventional, but if they were on birth control the “AA community” would STILL have 300,000 less babies. And if they had those babies it would still be seen as a “crisis”.
There are many issues here. First off, the fascination with Blacks and the glorification of our supposedly disadvantages (not being married, being locked up, and now having abortions, etc.). This alone shows that what is being touted as “facts” or “statisitcs” should make one hesitant to take as such. Secondly, when these “facts” are being given, why are they paraded about in the media? Next, whenever I read commnets after these “facts” are released, I read more bickering between two AA’s about these “facts” more so than an intelligent dialogue. So, I simply implore: Ask yourselves, why are we so glorified for our “supposedly” disadvantages? Demand information from those who are providing these “facts”. Ask why are they so quick to release “facts” about AA’s than any other race to the media? Ask what happens to AA’s psyche and relationships (as a whole) when these “facts” are released? Trust me, the rabbit hole is deep…
You hit the nail on the head!!!!!!
these dumbass conservative groups think they can do and say ANY! this would OBVIOUSLY be offensive to any group of people; to be racially targeted on a big ass billboard, using a picture of a small child in a politically exploitative manner. abortion should not be a method of birth control, but it is any woman’s right to choose what she wants to do. if you want to help the black community, there any MANY OTHER WAYS.
I do find it offensive, and I think that the people responsible for the ad are playing on the so called facts against black people and these abortions. I can imagine white people are just as guilty in some form or another. I also believe that abortions are immoral, but that never seems to be a conflict because no one has any morals these days. But the majority of people don’t read their book of faith, so their daily immoral activities haven’t crossed their mind. Abortion should be illegal, because a person shouldn’t kill out of wanting. It’s always about me me me.
Blacks are being treated as sheep and are constantly being guided around by media and this corrupt society. But it is what it is bc you can’t save these devils. Its hard enough to think freely and save yourself.
And to “my people’s keeper” word up
pro-life ppl are always going the extra mile when trying to prove a point….ie; standing in front of abortion clinics, trying to stop the person from going in and trying to change their minds…the statistics are definitely true..but i don’t know if it’s fair to single african americans out (hispanic btw)
Why are we assuming that all of the abortions are by un-wed teenage mothers? Adults have abortions too.
You know, if these idiots think that by attacking a whole race of people that they can get a point across then they’re even more dense then their belief that they can control what someone does with their body. They have succeeded in changing this from THEIR belief in “life always” to a racial attack.
The way to change ones mind is through education not personal attacks. Having said that, no one is going to change my mind that the choice is up to the people involved in each particular situation. There are many reasons (believe it or not) that people contemplate ending a pregnancy, and some of these reasons have deep roots that cannot be addressed in such a shallow manner.
I wonder where they found the child to pose for that ad because I cannot imagine any sane black woman who would go along with such a rediculous publicity stunt and make her child the face for another attempt at dragging down a race of people who work so hard to achieve. What if that little girl would grow up to have the view that it’s everyone’s right to choose?
This is completely unfair to people like me who fought so hard to have my children and mourned every single loss along the way. Instead of knocking black women for having so many abortions, why not try to educate and support them so that they don’t find themselves in the position to make such a decision anyway?
Why should I AND my children be subject to these ads that are annoying and demeaning and quite frankly NOT effective in getting their message across. It’s time to stop shoving your opinion in other people’s faces. They’re not listening!!! When you resort to tactics like that, take a clue. People don’t give a damn about your cause. You need to BACK OFF and try another approach. One that doesn’t disrespect a gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
And what about those men who get women pregnant and refuse to stand up to the responsibility? Why not target THEM in an effort to reduce the number of pregnancies that end up in abortions?
You people are NUTS. You don’t change my mind. It’s up to the individual and that’s that!!!!!
Just swallow!
This dayum billboard is a lie! the african american baby making machine is alive and well in this country here, I know at least 5 broads with two or three kids, no job, baby daddy would rather buy a fifth of Hennessy than put his money in a savings bond for the kids college fund. So I dont know where these people are looking, but if they come to my hood, all they gonna see is baby carages and air force ones. Heck, Nike made a billion dollars because all the baby mamas take their welfare checks and buy air jordans thats only gonna last 2 months so their kids could look fly.
Some people shouldnt be having children. As it stands, these project babies are multiplying. Most of them make money by collecting welfare checks and food stamps by reproducing and having more ghetto babies. Please spare me. This country is going through a financial crisis. We dont need unwanted babies weighing down the system with added cost.
I want to know who sighned off on using that little girls picture in this ad. Now when people see that picture all they gonna think about is african american disfunctionality. Good job parent
