It’s no secret that Russell Simmons and Bill Cosby have been feuding publicly regarding Cosby’s State Of Emergency campaign regarding the state of hip-hop and its cultural messages. Simmons took to his blog where he says he tried to end the feud when he ran into Cosby at the Jackie Robinson Annual Awards dinner last week – and lets just say it didn’t go too well.
Anyhow, I love Bill. His next move was straight up old school pre b-boy hood shit. He walked by me and bumped me with his shoulder as I walked off stage after presenting my award to Sean, just like the cool ass character in “Let’s Do It Again.” I then loved him even more. He’s from the same hood I’m from, just got a lucky break like me, cause I am those suffering men. And after that elbow I knew he was too.
Let’s all discuss the real causes of the suffering and not point our finger at a few poets who are mere reflections of a reality that needs all of our attention.

I think Bill had a different vision of what he wanted the African American community to look like before he died. Everyone college graduates, sophisticated, up standing citizens..because I think thats what his generation fought for. And there are plenty of those examples, but in reality…every race in the country has a lower and higher class. He cant expect every Black person to be the same. Russell in his own way is the black American dream…and he has created an Empire which has gotten alot of people in the door, no matter which way they had to present themselves to do so.

Lol. I never thought of it that way until I read this post. Ironically, I’m currently reason two of Uncle Russ’s books an’ it’s clear he has a good understanding of energy and it’s affects. If I’m not mistaking that’s the reason he’s a vegetarian.
While the seed of hip hop was planted as a creative way to protest, today it’s only a distraction and a bit of cheap entertainment. We look foolish being the only culture and race of people beefing on wax. Is Taylor Swift beefing with Britney Spears on record? Does Billy Joel threaten Boy George on record? Nope.
Rap is growing wack and half these niggas don’t even have ownership… And then the magazines rate Eminiem #1 of all time.

I do not mean to actively dis respect Russell, whatsoever, he’s enlightened/awakened and is constantly sowing good works,,,I appreciate and admire that about him
but the energy , the references were what the house was built upon, that is all..yes its all based in PROTEST, but it references, for the most part, over and over…violence and harmful human to human conduct
this is not just based in the communities of color
for year s and years and years…with my own attempts, I have constantly been annoyed at watching the “Rock Star(t)” go up the ladder of celebrity with a schtick or sort that exploits, this, that or the other, sex, drugs, whatever repeatedly,,,its not a color based industry
then, once they are at the pinnacle…they are all about good works and energy–which is fine…but they need to own, the rocket they rode to get there
