Meet Carole Markin: She Sued Match.com After Being Sexually Assaulted

by admin on 04/19/2011 · 8 comments

Carole Markin has forced one of the world’s largest dating websites to change its policies after she filed a lawsuit over meeting a man who was a registered sex offender on the site. The suit asked for no money, just a change of policies…

Last week, Markin, then only publically identified only as Jane Doe, filed the civil lawsuit asking a court to force Match.com to install a sex offender screening system that checks the background of those who register for the site.

The lawsuit said the man went to Markin’s house after they had dinner last May and he forced her to perform a sexual act. Alan Paul Wurtzel was arrested and charged but no trial date has been set. Wurtzel’s attorney maintains the sexual encounter was consensual and a trail date has not been set in that case. Match.com officials announced Sunday it will start to screen users against a national sex offenders registry.

Despite these precautions watch who you meet online and check out the interview with Carole who has just gone public above if you don’t believe us.

well…she needs to be accountable for her own actions period. If she waited until after he raped her to google him then that’s her fault. I have nothing against people who want to use this to find love but you have to be smart about it period. You shouldnt be looking to meet up with the crazy ass man so quick, he looks crazy for one, and like i said you need to check these people out first.

…but Match should have some sort of accountability. And the fact that she didn’t ask for money speaks volumes.

for what? that’s ridiculous.

when you go to a club/bar to meet chicks – can you sue the bar if you meet a chick there that has herpes or the monster under the premise that they should have checked? the same with felons/sexual offenders?

that would get thrown out of court summarily because it’s bullshit.

the only responsibility match has IMO is to forewarn you that you’re still meeting strangers and that no due diligence on their part will protect you from what’s coming if you’re a fucking idiot.

and her assertion about criminal backgrounds is ridiculous because where does it end? parking tickets? tax evasion?

she said that IT DIDN’T OCCUR TO HER to check dude’s background because she’d had good experiences. C’MON SON.

Ivy league?????? this bitch went to Ivy College.

no woman ever deserves 2 be sexually assualted…but heres my thing…ive met a couple guys of off match..and i did a full background check myself…because when u meet people online you never can be too careful. so why she wasnt cautious and let her gaurds down is beyond me. i think ever dating website should havesomething that gives everyone a background check but the users still have to be smart and use better judgement and always always remember to stay in public for the first few dates and not be so quick to want to meet each other…because if something were to happen…you cant keep blaming the dating website for your poor judgement. so i think she droppoed the ball by being too laid back with meeting him and i think all dating websites should do background checks but we also should still use our better judgement because no dating website is safe…its about practicing safe judgement and not rushing into anything.

OK all of your comments about her ‘being accountable for her own actions’ and all are completely absurd. She met a man and he FOLLOWED HER HOME and attacked her. That is RAPE. I think it is very important for all of the dating sites to screen their members. Match.com specifically, through its commercials and such, DOES create a false sense of security for people looking for relationships. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for putting any blame on her at ALL. Instead, educate yourselves on the issue and maybe even do something good and help fight to get all dating sites to screen people.

Ms Markin needs to know that Match.com would have forwarded the man’s background information to her if subject to IMBRA. But Match cut a deal with the Tahirih Justice Center and the National Organization for Women to be exempt from the law.
