Things Not Looking Good For RIM And BlackBerry

by admin on 04/30/2011 · 12 comments

On Friday Research In Motion saw the price of their stock drop another 14%, nearly $8 dollars thanks to the poor reception the BlackBerry tablet and the company’s slow response to make technologies available on the iPhone and Android models available to their consumers.  Reports the WSJ:

Recent product launches aimed at bolstering sales have been disappointing. Its BlackBerry Torch, RIM’s first device with a touch screen and a slide-out keyboard, hasn’t been a blockbuster as hoped. And the long-awaited PlayBook tablet launched after a delay, to tepid reviews, earlier this month.  RIM has struggled to react quickly to changes in consumer preferences, especially after Apple unveiled its iPhone, with its snazzy touch-screen interfaces and a bevy of third-party applications.

Analysts also expect a series of new touch-screen BlackBerrys in coming months, including another fresh iteration of the Torch; a touch-screen-only BlackBerry to replaces the flawed Blackberry Storm; and new versions of RIM’s mainstay BlackBerry Curve.  Several new versions of the PlayBook are already planned this year, raising concerns that RIM is stretching itself too thin.  While some RIM watchers have applauded the improvements, some also say they merely put RIM on par with other smartphones, which have long been available.

Who’s a team Blackberry die hard?  Who jumped ship?

U have the Bold 9700, BB only USP is BBM and relativly low price point. Good for school kids not wanting to pay for SMS’s. I personaly use it for international reasons, but still, their are ever more 3rd party apps coming out for iphone and android that do the same sort of job. Not quite as well but soon will be.

BB 3rd pary apps are sooooooo bad, and hard to access. I think to far behind to catch up to other markets. Licensing one way to go?

RIP BB… unless you do somthing, and quick.

Americans still remain ignorant…first, RIM is killing it outside of US…so much that they’re like the new Nokia. Second, your Andriods and iPhones are not cutting it so much outside the US because they’re too expensive to the rest of the world who don’t have an option of buying with an AT&T (or Verizon) contract or just don’t care about millions of junk app Apple has to offer as most of them can’t even be used or are unavailable outside the US.
So even though I think RIM is making/has made a lot of bad decisions, it still has a HUGE market out there to supply…thanks

Not true…

I have lived in Japan, Korea, and Italy the past few years…Apple started out slow but boy-o-boy…you can’t find an iPhone or iPad now. Android, is not marketed overseas so that explains why their market share is low but Apple is getting HUGE overseas. Don’t really see BB’s to much anymore…you see Nokio phones alot though.

@Put you up on Game
You know you further stressed my point…hope you can release that?
The top 5 phone makers in the world are:
1. Nokia
2. Samsung
3. LG
4. Apple
5. RIM
All I’m saying Apple might have a large market in the US but they have a lesser market outside the US. And as for RIM I believe they still have a market as Blackberrys are still the most shipped phones in the UK…so all is not really gloom and doom for them.

Oops just went up again after they announced the new Blackberry 9900 and 9930 and a bunch of other new products…
…see what I did there? The stock market is not always a true reflection of what’s going on in the real world. Forget Vegas, NASDAQ is where the real gambling is at!
