This Is How Your Chest Looks When You Have No Heart

by admin on 06/20/2011 · 0 comments

You are looking at the x-ray of a patient who became the first to have their heart removed and have two pumps placed in the chest to act as an artificial device. Craig A. Lewis of Houston was told he had less than 12 hours to live when doctors at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital decided to try the experimental procedure. One week after receiving the device which does not produce a pulse or beat, Craig who had been hooked to a external blood pump, a dialysis machine, and breathing machine was able to sit up and talk to family members before he passed away from the damage his other organs had sustained.

Scientists will soon be able to replace the human heart!  What’s next, the brain??
