I feel like Drake is running out of material. This is one of the problems with young artists. You are living a normal life so people can relate and thats what makes you hot to people, but then you blow up so fast and now the majority of your experiences people can’t relate to anymore….so with that said….how long can he rap about relationships going bad, and how fame, money, and celebrity have changed him??!!

Oh and to add, so he didn’t grow up in a poor economic situation….that takes out the “come up stories” that most rappers and really artist in general have…..that whole starving artist role…..his fans watched him on a hit cable show where he made money, his mom was wealthy enough that he lived in upper middle class neighborhoods and went to good schools, so by the time he starts rapping….he was already getting “actor” checks

i do agree that he’s the type to run out of material. plus he lives a clean life so there is no new material to source for his music.

that said – the big caveat is that the audience doesn’t care about artistic provenance… at all. and a big plus to him being light-skinned – women love that shit.

@rapfan, see the problem with what your conveying is that you mistake drake for a super hard rapper and you mistake 2011 for 1997. Its 2011 kid, “rap fans” have evolved, they like concious shit, they dont really care for a “im so poor, so are you, you can relate to my rhymes” the reason why this kid is so popular is that he doesnt alienate the music buyers, the kids who actually go to his shows arent the ones listening to hardcore shit, they are middle/upper class kids who have 2 parents, relationship issues and can relate to his “story” or lack therof. Your theory works if drake was rapping/singing in a 90′s era where that type of rags/riches story was appreciated.

Well said, have to agree with you. I was just reading comment you replied and thought so no youngens can be rappers now coz they weren’t bought up poor? He shouldn’t do his thing coz his moms got dosh? wow.

It’s not the best thing I ever heard, but it has a certain groove to it that’s real cool. Glad it won’t be on the album though.

@torontostaar I didn’t mean in a gangster way of rags to riches….I meant as far as overcoming struggles. So I agree with you about his fanbase, and their situation, but c’mon we all know Drake only raps about money(not upper middle class money) failed relationships, and fame…..so to me he is not even “conscious” and the quality of his music is starting to go down and sound the same, and this is just his second album. Once the hype fades away, which it is starting to….then what? When you look at other younger rappers like Cudi, or Frank Ocean or Big Sean, the content of their rhymes and music is different then Drakes.

lmaoo uh homeboy, all kid cudi raps abt is weed and crack/cocaine, frank ocean doesnt have enough of a catalog for a comparison and big sean lmao are u crazy? ” her face is a 7 but her ass is 10″ yeah thats REAL conscious, dude you coulda mentioned Kanye, Common, Mos Def, Kweli if you were gonna play the conscious rapper card, their still rapping. lmao @ big sean though u GOT JOKES KID

Drake 2 years ago was the shit.. Since he joined young money his content hasn’t changed a bit and he’s not advancing!!

But thats just my opinion
