High School Student Facing 8-Years In Jail For Putting A Sex Doll In Bathroom?

by admin on 07/06/2011 · 18 comments

Talk about a prank gone wrong! After putting a doll in the bathroom of Rushville Consolidated High School in Indiana on his last day, 18-year old Tyell Morton was caught by surveillance cameras and is now facing charges of disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and institutional criminal mischief, a felony that carries the potential of two to eight years in prison. After a janitor saw someone drop a suspicious package in the bathroom he called cops who arrived ready for a bomb with dogs and a bomb squad, only to find a blow-up sex doll.

“I know there has been plenty of pranks done at that school. I went to that school. When I heard what they was charging him for, my heart just dropped,” said Tyell’s mother Cammie of the charges which carry more time than if he bought a gun to school (a 3 year penalty). The county prosecutor Philip J. Caviness has said they don’t plan to push for prison time for the college bound teen, but the charges are appropriate.

Safe to say this is Tyell’s last prank for a while.

I think its great that they aren’t pushing for jail time and he is still described as “the college bound teen”… Just something reading more than the headline can do for you.

I think it’s great that you believe the lies of an Indiana prosecutor and the hastily crafted words of a blogger. Just something having an understanding of context can do for you.

The criminalization of youth, esp. Black american youth, is despicable and needs to be addressed. He doesn’t need any jail time for his thoughtless but harmless prank. But we can assume they want him embroiled in the prison industrial complex early. How can we bring about change for this young man, and other young people like him?

Another case of government going to far and power being abused. You are going to ruin a young life for a prank? A silly prank?

The charges carry a potential prison sentence, but the prosecutor isn’t seeking jail time…

you’re equivocating. it’s logically false.

casey anthony case: she was accused and faced the death penalty for a crime. she was found not guilty of the most serious offense.

tyrell morton: is accused of a crime and faces eight years. he has not been tried.

if there are any problems here, it’s the unfairly broad application of the institutional criminal mischief statute (and overly stiff sentences). It’s the logical argument that surveillance cameras in public schools do not improve safety and are unlawful under constitutional law. Finally, the overreaction by everyone involved reflects the spirit of our post-terror times-and that has racist subtext.

In other words, no reasonable person would draw a parallel between casy anthony and tyrell morton as these cases have nothing in common whatsoever. Any person who does so is an idiot.

yes, in short, i’m calling you a fucking idiot.

If you just look at it as 2 examples of why the US has got some fucked up shit going on though, they both work. They’re not the same thing, they’re 2 different situations where the criminal justice system is not doing anything good.

Out of all the problems going on in the education system in this county, Indiana believes that 8 years in prison is justice for a high school prank. Its apparent that “the system” is racist, unfair, and ignorant to real crimes going on in this county.

“The charges are appropriate”!! Really??
Honestly I hope the people of that community rise up in protest and not allow this to take place.
