jack nicholson when he did the joker was already an old dude. for me that kills suspension of disbelief (meaning i become aware of his actual performance, regardless of how good it is). an old joker faced dude – i’m not scared – i’m tossing him a few coins.

heath ledger had no such limitations and he actually played joker as a fieldmarshal amoral genius. The layers in ledger’s joker so far outstrip nicholson’s that he might as well have been in black and white in comparison. A lot of those limitations are in the script – but the point remains. ledger IS the joker.

but i know that it’s different for older niggas who grew up with that batman. a wise man knows not to argue with nostalgia.
