‘The Help’ Debuts Strong For The Weekend Box-Office!

by admin on 08/15/2011 · 5 comments

It couldn’t knock The Rise of The Planet of The Apes from the #1 spot – but The Help still debuted strong it’s opening week with over $25.5 Million in ticket sales.  Did you get a chance to read the book and/or check out the movie this weekend?

I read the book and I thought the book was great! I live a busy lifestyle and I read the book at my own leisure. It starts off slow but I really enjoyed that I knew the characters and imagined them vividly. I related to the book and thought it was a great book for Kathryn Sockett’s first one. Not every author can land a best seller during the first book.

The book did have a slow start – it was a good book (not great) that I enjoyed reading but I felt the story was really on the surface…….the author didn’t dig deep enough into the emotional sides of the characters.

I will see the movie though.

I’ve never read the book but I did see the movie. i did enjoy the movie but just like the book it didn’t dig deep enough into the characters.

For one, there was no man of color in the movie. Not one. The only time a colored man was mentioned was when he was beating his wife (the one with the chocolate pie cake).

Either way, it was a good movie.
