According to an interesting new poll conducted by MTV and the Associated Press among people aged 14 – 24, some findings:

  • 51% percent encounter discriminatory words or images on those sites
  • 57% say “trying to be funny” is a big reason people use discriminatory language online; about half that many say a big reason is that people “really hold hateful feelings about the group”
  • 44% say they’d be very or extremely offended if they saw someone using the “N” word online or in a text message
  • 35% say seeing someone use the “N” word online wouldn’t bother them much
  • 60% of African American youth say they would be very offended if someone used the “N” word online
  • 41% of women say when people use “slut” it’s offensive; compared with 28% of men

People think it’s funny online cuz you don’t have to save face! It’s more a joking match but most people really show there true identity which is interesting
