This is an interesting way to gain nationwide attention for your cause, clever college kids. Reports CNN:
…The controversial “Increase Diversity Bake Sale” hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans is still on, the club’s president said, despite “grossly misguided comments” and threats aimed toward supporters of the University of California Berkeley student group.
During the sale, scheduled for Tuesday, baked goods will be sold to white men for $2, Asian men for $1.50, Latino men for $1, black men for $0.75 and Native American men for $0.25. All women will get $0.25 off those prices. The bake sale is meant to draw attention to pending legislation that would allow California universities to consider race, gender, ethnicity and national origin during the admissions process.
“We agree that the event is inherently racist, but that is the point,” BCR President Shawn Lewis wrote in response to upheaval over the bake sale. “It is no more racist than giving an individual an advantage in college admissions based solely on their race (or) gender.”

I’m African-American and I appreciate the discount. Now instead of testing your dry theory through a bake sale, study racism and it’s effects more reasonably. Like classifying it as a mental disorder. Is it not one Berkley University?
Yes! After generations of our people being enslaved, raped, murdered, lynched & oppressed, we have finally reached the mountain top.
It’s not quite the 40 acres and a mule that we were promised and had envisioned… but, somehow that $1.25 discount off the purchase of a baked good makes it all seem worth it.

Most people won’t see this as GOING IN REVERSE but think about it. Was it NOT the same idea the kept black people OUT of university’s? Let colleges use what as a pre-requisite? Isn’t this why women couldn’t get into the schools?
Segragation ended for the most part in 1970. We have a freakin black president 40+ years later… are we still saying that I can’t be looked at as an equal to someone else?
Maybe this would be ok in 1980-1990 but now? Just treat me as an equal. If anything let me in because I came from a poor neighborhood or I am the first in my family to go to college. Stop making it about my race.

It is really not that deep! I am African-American and I understand where they are coming from! Sometimes you must make light of a situation in order to bring attention to it and get people talking about it…People really need to chill…and I like how CNN only interviewed White and Asian students to get their reactions hmm

imagine in a basketball game, having the baskets on a robotic arm so it can be automatically lowered to nine feet when white people shoot and eight feet when asians shoot. that would be a ridiculous game to watch.
affirmative action doesn’t address all the issues black people have with standardized testing – MOST OF WHICH IS CULTURAL.
African and West Indian immigrants come to the united states and they tend to perform much closer to whites and in some cases on a par with Asians. It’s because of that cultural mantra of education that is at the core of most West Indian and African families. so why is there a disparity?
affirmative action is like a long term bandaid – on a shotgun wound. and niggas looking at the bandaid like – “yeah, that’s gonna heal that right up.”
I believe we should work to fix the sources of the disparities but at the same time, some of the “catch up game” is played in college. Say what you want, but thats better than nothing. At least at this moment now someone is getting that education, maybe we can take our spit-shined degrees and do something in our communities. I, however, don’t believe that standardized tests are the biggest part. I believe it stems from lacking a sound mathematical foundation and poor language art preparation. Its the schools, and I only say that because parents can no longer be counted on. The institution has to make up for the lack of. The kids who need the best schools(teachers, resources, exposure) are getting the worst .
