I understood the article to mean that they’re only leasing the property for 6 months with no intention to purchase. The reason for that could be to avoid paying taxes and/or property insurance. The rich are very savvy about those kinds of things… as I’m sure that money is no object for the Gates family.

I don’t care if is 60k or 100k 0r 120k it is way too much to pay for a place for a 15yo kid to go play with her ponies. Bill Gates said that he did not want to spoil his kids, or so I thought. He said that he planned to give away ALL his money before he dies. This is a ludicrous way to accompolish that. Renting a house for 6 months for more than most people make in 10 years–it makes me sick!!!
