This just in from ABC News and several sources:
Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the most wanted man in the world, has been killed, Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril said today. The flamboyant tyrant who terrorized his country and much of the world during his 42 years of despotic rule was reportedly cornered by insurgents in the town of Sirte, where Gadhafi had been born and was a stronghold of his supporters.
Al Jazeera aired video of what appeared to be the dead leader, which showed Gadhafi lying in a pool of blood in the street, shirtless, and surrounded by people. Gadhafi, 69, ruled Libya with an iron fist for almost 42 years. He seized control of Libya in Sept., 1969 in a bloodless coup when he was just 27 years old. The then young and dashing army captain and his small band of military officers overthrew the monarch King Idris, setting up a new Libyan Arab Republic that over the years became increasingly isolated from the rest of the world.
Gadhafi took over the top spot as the world’s most wanted man after Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. troops in Pakistan.
Check out the video above which gives a brief history of the controversial leader.

Great so now Libyanoil is free for the taking from NATO forces. This whole sham “liberation” was always so odd to me, especially since Ghaddafi was known as the liberator of Libya when he first took power. and pleas tell me what type of suppression these people were under when they lived in the RICHEST nation in Africa (per GDP) and had free healthcare, free education, oh and FREE VAS AND OIL!! Jeez sounds like suppression to me (read: sarcasm) and I also find it HILARIOUS that NATO: North American Terrorist Organization, find the money to go and supply arms to the opposition when America, Britain and France are no in such great shape financially themselves. I also find it odd that out of 10 oil rich nations, the EU/UN/USA is embroiled in conflict with 7,let’s not front, all this is over resources. but what worries me is that those who oppose the US/EU and the UN have been fairly quiet, but somehow I don’t think that will last very long.
of course it’s over resources.
it’s not unfair to say that some type of leverage over oil producing countries is necessary.
but if the republicans stop taking oil money and allow the country to spend to develop the non-oil economy – the need for conflict ends overnight.
If Ghaddafi was so great, why did Libya have a 20.74% unemployment rate, and about 1/3 lived below the national poverty line? Why was there an Uprising and civil war for the last 8 months? Educated people don’t want to live in poverty while the ruler/king/leader is living in the lap of luxury.
He should have shared the wealth.
If you actually read up on the beginning of this event, it started in 2006 when Ghaddaffi suggested to the Arab League that oil rich nations should develop their own currency instead of using the US dollar/Euro, that way when the west has to buy oil, they have to do it through THEIR currency, well as you can imagine the powers that be did NOT like that idea, and since 2006 there have been rumblings of a “liberation” please read up on this, it’s true. furthermore, I never said all libyans lived under great circumstances, that would suggest they were in a uptopia, no they were not, but don’t believe the BS you see on a CNN clip, they live CONSIDERABLY better than the average American who can hardly afford healthcare, gas, living expenses ect. This is what annoys me about some of you Americans, you see a 4 min clip on your tv and you think that’s a fair representation of what’s actually occurring halfway across the world. This sham “liberation” was ALL ABOUT PRIVATE CONTRACTS FOR LIBYAN OIL FOR THE FRENCH AND BRITISH AND EVENTUALLY THE US.end of.
real shit saddam suggested the same – rather that oil producing countries shouldn’t use the dollar for oil – but the euro – and finally – their own currency.
see what happened to that dude.
saddam also championed the arab league – a mega country of all the arab countries – sort of like the US. Obviously that’s good for everybody except the niggas who entire economies depend on tons of oil.
oil is the drug. the oil producing countries are the pushers. the US is the high functioning addict. of course there is gonna be violence.
the only solution is rehab. but the republicans don’t want to go green.
Khadafy had a whopping $200 billion in wealth stashed around the world, according to report.
his i not a great man, he stole money and wealth from his people.
They got him! Now who’s next?
In the last 8 years we’ve seen 3 major Arabs, with countries baring oil, killed: Sadam, Bin Laden, and now Ghaddafi. These wars are for resources. So it’s safe to say America doesnt always use arms to protect herself. We are often on the offense.
Don’t forget about Hosni Mubarak in Eygypt and Ben Ali in Tunisia.
you live by the gun you die by the gun
Osama bin Laden was a Saudi terrorist operating in Afghanistan and was found and killd in Pakistan. He was no leader of a country, just a terrorist bum.
