If You’re Selling Imitation Maple Syrup… You Might Want To Check This Out

U.S. Senators Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) are going extra hard to make sure that vendors who sell imitation or fake Vermont syrup are served with a federal offense.

The bill is called The Maple Agriculture Protection and Law Enforcement Act (MAPLE Act). The MAPLE Act creates a felony offense carrying a five-year maximum penalty for fraudulently selling maple syrup that is not actually maple syrup. Under current law, the sale of fraudulent maple syrup is a misdemeanor offense.

Video after the jump.

Vermont & Maine must not have any real crime to fight. I mean, I like flapjacks just as much as the next guy, but, c’mon… a felony offense for making “fake” maple syrup???

We should sell those two states to Canada, so that we can pay off some of our debt to China.
