So Far….What’s Been The Year’s Best Hip Hop Album??

by admin on 11/15/2011 · 85 comments

While we wait for major releases from Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and Common, what do you think the best album has been so far?  If you read the.LIFE Files these covers should need no introduction – but we have Eminem and Royce Da 5’9′s Hell: The Sequel, Big Sean’s debut Finally Famous, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne, Wale’s Ambition, J. Cole’s debut Cole World, Lil Wayne’s The Carter IV and finally Drake’s Take Care which was released today.

Make your pick or tell us who left out in the comments section.

J. Cole is a beast. He’s had the best album of the year by far despite a few filler tracks. Lyrically, nobody is better than the 5’9 but I didn’t like the production on the album. The Jay and Ye’ record is my #2, but it feels rushed. Weezy and Drake have okay albums. The Carter 4 is growing on me, but I like the Drake better. Big Sean and Wale have good joints, but next month I will be feeling something else. I like mixtape Wale better. Don’t forget about the Roots on Dec. 6. UNDUN already sounds like a classic.

cubacombs 11/15/2011 at 1:53 PM

this is what kills me……The GAME had one of the best albums this year but he didn’t make the list. It’s obvious someone from the lifefiles just decided to put up anything that came to mind.

Reply

2. Tha Carter IV
3. Take Care
4. Ambition
5. Cole World

*Section.80 does get an honorable mention, because, it does get play as well. It just wasn’t on the list of options that TLF chose.*

This is my opinion, based on each albums replay value. This is what’s currently getting play in my crib and in my ride… in that order.

RED ALBUM & Cole World are hiphop… the rest should be in another category..

Reply

Stephanie 11/15/2011 at 3:17 PM

Before it dropped I was hoping to say Cole World, but it turns out J.Cole drops mixtapes that sound like albums and an album that sounds like a mixtape.

My pick is Watch The Throne, not just because of the hype but because it is a complete album (although, I like to pretend Lift Off doesn’t exist). Also, they created memorable songs whose impact will go beyond this year (Otis? N***as in Paris?).

Also, let’s face it, Take Care is R&B. (Absolutely, no shade; it just seemed like he was singing more than half the time).

Watch The Throne!!! Niccas hate winners so they align themselves with the underdogs by saying some of this shit on this list could even be considered the best hip hop album of the year so far…LMFAO! Drake got some bangers on his album but I don’t know what genre you put that shit in…some tracks are hip hop, other are flat out R&B and some are pop. But one things for sure, Over My Dead Body, Lord Knows F/Rick Ross and Crew Love F/The Weeknd bangs!

When is the media gonna realize that Black people really don’t care about Eminem? I mean thelifefiles puts “Bad meets evil” up there and no RED album? Eminem is cool, but he doesn’t bang in the hood like that, so he can never be the “KING” of hip hop like Rolling Stone crowned him.
