A new study from the November issue of Archives of Sexual Behavior 453 women from the southern US in committed relationships and found that 54% of them were faking orgasms. But here’s why….
“One particular reason that emerges from a lot of studies is ‘to keep my partner interested in this relationship,’ or ‘to prevent him from defecting [from] the relationship or leaving the relationship for another woman,’” study lead author Dr. Farnaz Kaighobadi, a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University in New York City.
Kaighobadi suggests that faking an orgasm to keep a mate from straying may be an evolutionary adaptation. Previous research suggests when a woman has an orgasm, it may cause her body to retain sperm for child-bearing. The evolutionary theory suggests faking an orgasm unconsciously might help a woman retain the sperm of a man with “good genes,” giving her the best chance to have a healthy child.
Essentially, women may use faked orgasms to signal to their partner that “I am selecting you,” thus manipulating his commitment.
This gives the term “fake it ’till you make it” new meaning. Thoughts?

Wellllll…. I’d like to read the full experiment. I’d love to find out how they came to this conclusion. I don’t think there is any empirical way of studying this. The evolutionary explanation is so outdated. There must be newer reasons in modern society. Like, what if a woman fakes her orgasm to prevent her partner finding out that she doesn’t always orgasm when having sex. If you know what I mean.

in my experience you can usually tell. the hardest to tell is if the woman has never orgasmed – or has never orgasmed during intercourse – because EVERY orgasm is a fake.
but if you have real ones sometimes and sometimes fake them – those are the easiest to determine.
and in my experience the women who experience the most orgasms – the ones that are multi-orgasmic – are also the most fertile (or perhaps those are the ones i end up having the most sex with).
