There Is No Hit Toy This Christmas

by admin on 12/13/2011 · 4 comments

“We want iPads….”

A new New York Times piece looks at what toy retailers are doing to make sure the cash comes in this holiday season since there is no Teletubby toy that everyone wants.

“We are not seeing people clamor for any single item,” Stephanie Lucy, vice president for toys at Target, said by e-mail. The hitless season has retailers stocking less, leaning on classic items rather than new ones and possibly discounting less in the final days before Christmas. And with no Tickle Me Elmo or Zhu Zhu Pets to draw crushing crowds to the toy aisles, most retailers are being careful not to get stuck with unsold toys.

LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer, Hot Wheels Wall Tracks, Lalaoopsy Silly Hair dolls and some Lego sets are sold out or hard to find in many parts of the country, but that is mainly because of consistent demand rather than growing waves of frenzied shoppers.

Technology is the new toy?  What was the one toy you HAD to have growing up???

I brought my son a leap pad a couple of months agoa and it is so cool. the camera is very clear and it works with leapster explorer games. I went to buy my niece one but it was sold out everywhere, even on the leapfrog website. The pink one is damn near impossible to get.
