It Probably Wasn’t A Good Idea To Call Rihanna A “Ni**a B**ch” Eh?

by admin on 12/21/2011 · 45 comments

In things that make you go hmmmm news… a Dutch magazine featured a write-up on pop star Rihanna where they labeled her a “Ni**a B**ch” as shown above – which was approved by the editor in chief of 8 years Eva Hoeke.

Needless to say, the story was a hot topic online yesterday – so hot in fact that Eva Hoeke resigned from her position as Editor of the magazine and Rihanna sent a scathing rebuttal to the story on her twitter account.

All the drama after the jump!

Rihanna’s response to the magazine:

“I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print!”

“There are 1000′s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense … ‘N—a Bi**h’?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you … F— YOU!!!”

Eva Hoeke’s resignation statementL

“Because of the enormous pressure from social media, I can promise improvement in terms of language used in future issues of Jackie. Previously, I offered rectification. As I now come to the conclusion that rectification is not the right solution, I am departing.

“The term ‘nigga bitch” has come over from America and we have only this to describe this particular style of clothes that we can try to interpret.

“After eight years, with my heart and soul, I have worked for Jackie. I realize that these errors – although no malicious intent – is a reason to leave.”

Out of all the muthafuckin words they could have picked up from America, they chose these 2 words??? Really??? This “Editor” person did the right thing by quitting. Why wouldn’t you do your research and learn that these words are not acceptable here?

Reply

Didi from Brussels 12/21/2011 at 5:25 AM

But they’re acceptable here as they barely have an impact on one’s life. I for instance, am half tunisian half spanish and I sometimes my black/arab/white friends by worst (racial) names and it just doesn’t matter. ‘Niggabitch’ is not really a common word here, but it is understood as ‘hiphop chick’, and it really isn’t that bad actually as no one bothered by it.

What’s the fuss all about, rihanna used the N word herself in the song G4L. So stop being so dramatic and don’t be hypocrite.

Yeah tracey I want attention, sure. Rihanna is just ignorant for the fact she uses the word Nigga herself in her lyrics. It’s just sad watching this from another country, of course I know the word is perceived wrong by many. I am not for it or against it but judging some editor when you use the word yourself then you are just some one who lacks intelligence.

And if she really cares then she leaves Def Jam records because jay and ye uses nigga????

What blows me is that they’re acting like Rihanna is the first starlet with an over sexed image therefore she deserves to be called a “NiggaB!tch” (whatever the ufck that is). The article translates to something like “she’s got the moves, the ghetto ass, the porn heels…” and I don’t see her singing about or wearing anything different from what Katy Perry does or what B Spears did a few years back. Hell, all Madonna ever did was sing about sex and wear skimpy outfits. If they called each woman who carried out this persona a “NiggaB!tch” then they would have an argument but to single out Rihanna and then just call it a joke and say that’s just what they call people who “wear this particular style of clothing”? That’s just so full of crap and its crazy that this is the [racial] climate that we’re in.

Yeah where ‘you are in’ across the atlantic it’s an whole other thing.
I guess you should figure this problem out yourself just like wall street, instead of boo’ing editors from other countries.
I heard the most americans don’t even know names of people that are in the senate (Dr. Phil). Or the profession of Hillary Clinton, even I know that com’on! Stop playing so many sports and learn something

Fool's Gold 12/21/2011 at 11:54 AM

There’s nothing that I need to figure out. Racism always has been and will always be here. It’s never going anywhere. I’m not “boo’ing” editors from other countries either. I said she made a terrible argument when it came to calling Rihanna a “NiggaBitch” (her initial response was posted on the Jackie’s FB page). I really don’t know what Wall Street, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Phil and sports have to do with Europeans calling Black women “NiggaB!tches” either and I’m not trying to figure that one out either.

Reply

Stup 12/21/2011 at 1:03 PM

With ‘you are in’ I meant your country, my bad.
And have you ever been in Europe? How do you know what racism means here and the load of the word Nigga?? Not everything is the same outside the USA
And the arguement of Jackie doesn’t even matter, it’s the word itself. It was written in Dutch I believe so it was meant for the Dutch market.

And as ‘ye’ said as a reply to someone here above, Rihanna used the freaking N word herself in one of her songs… so how stupid is this whole thing?

its well known through-out the world that nigga is a word only used by racist or blacks in america. no one else can say it with out getting fired, fucked up or killed. except it. we do make exceptions…puerto ricans, dominicans, cause everyone knows they are just as black as us. but its OUR thing. good or bad.

daan 12/23/2011 at 5:33 PM

nah for real it aint racist if you dont mean it that way if the word doesnt have that intent and in the netherlands its accepted that nigger isnt racist. different cultures have different standards

S.O.T. 12/21/2011 at 12:39 PM

Black people both men and woman need to re-asses the images and music we put out to the world. The editor can make all the excuses as to why she thought this was cool but the fact that Rhiana’s oversexed image is accepted by the black community is sad. This is influencing our young girls that will one day be expected to “grow up” and become responsible adults and mothers. Not enough blacks want to accept the responsibility of the way the world views us and the role we play in that equation. We can’t look at what white entertainers do and think its ok for us to follow. Our plight is much deeper and we shouldn’t use them as the standard. Young blacks are at a huge disadvantage and Rhiana’s music and image along with countless others is sending us deeper into hell. Sex is not something that should be taken lightly and our society promotes it like there’s no price to pay. Many black woman have been scarred for life by consensual sex because they had it before they were mentally and spiritually ready. Nobody wants to talk about that. It didnt start with Rhiana but she sure is flying that whorish banner.

It’s music…get over it. I don’t understand why there’s room for white artists who are slutty, foul mouthed, virginal, inspirational, degrading and everything else in between but a black artist (or person) always has to be this shining beacon of light. GTFOH. And that doesn’t excuse other cultures for using degrading terms about blacks. Blacks (and to a certain extent, Hispanics) seem to be the catch all for racism these days! Certain groups have this uber-protected status where slurs against them are easily recognized as hateful/inappropriate: Jews, gays and (white) women.

You obviously haven’t matured to the point where you understand that its more than just music. It’s culture and a way of life that’s being promoted. Why are people so afraid of righteousness? What’s wrong with Blacks being the beacon of light in a world that celebrates slutty, foul mouthed, degrading behavior? Maybe we can return to a time when we actually ruled kingdoms and vast fortunes. This present Hip-Hop and R&B culture doesn’t inspire that kind of change. This is what you want for your sons and daughters? Why not clean up the music and raise the bar on our morals. Music is a much deeper influence than you realize. It doesn’t only cause you to nod your head and dance. The words shape your values whether you realize it or not. You ever been to a concert and felt chills or hear the artist say they can feel the energy of the crowd? There’s a spiritual connection and right now you’re way too shallow to understand. You think NWA, Biggie, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross don’t shape the way men feel about woman? The girls that listen to Rhiana, Beyonce, Nikki Minaj are being called NiggaBitches and don’t even realize it. This was an indictment of the culture not just Rhiana. Wake up!

there are a ton of “righteous” artists. not every artist has a responsibility toward holding up morality.

dear S.O.T.
its not Rhianna responsiblily to guide and mold the black youth of today, its their parents. What makes money is going to sell. sex sells, it always has sold and it will continue to sell long after Rhianna. What does Rhianna stage persona have to do with a Dutch mag degrading an entire race have to do with anything? Are you sayig she deserves to be called a NiggaBitch? You sound like a fool, many black women have been scarred because they had sex too early…?!?!?! did u read what you wrote because its complete garbage. We as black people have been sterotyped by a white dominated society. FYI nothing can send you into hell you get there all by yourself. IM DONE!

I didn’t say it was her responsibility. The platform she’s been given can make her more influential than a childs parent. Some of you people just love the slackness and will defend it to the end. You can’t get your mind out the gutter long enough to offer a balanced outlook on the subject. Since you’ve been programmed to repeat the phrase “sex sells” you can’t visualize a world where morals come first and we learn to control our harmones. I’m not saying the editor was right, I’m saying we need to re-assess the images and music we send out to the world because it impacts how the world views and treats us. If thats too much for you to understand then you’re right YOU ARE DONE.

you didnt have to say it was her responsiblity ur comments did that for you. and if you want to live in denial thats fine but guess what? sex sells point blank period. the platform that she is given is because is selling sex. if you want righteousness you have to seek it out it this capitalist society its not going to be spoon fed to you. as a parent is your job to instill values and morals in you child, not to rely on the media and thats going to be a battle, if you think otherwise well thats on you. there will always be a media outlet pedaling sex to children because they have no control over their hormones and they have the most expendable cash. now, of course there is nothing wrong with being righteous. thats what religion and gospel and all that jazz is for. the fact of the matter is: regardless of how rhianna portrays herself is no reason to dispurse racial slurs. and for you to entertain the notion that because rhianna is a star she has to be a saint is nonsense. we will be rediculed for our color regardless of our acheivments or shortcomings take a look at how they disrespect the president.

The magazine was wrong! There’s no acceptable reason for them to have printed this…period!!

But on the other hand, there’s no accountability in the black community for the wrong we do to ourselves. We present these negative images of ourselves to the world and get mad when they’re used against us. We’re only about 40 years removed from being considered full human members of society. So us attempting to de-sensitize such a hateful word as NIGGER is delusional and is indicative of the deeply rooted self-hatred that many of us still harbor. You don’t see Jews trying to embrace any negative facet of the holocaust.

Reply

For Real 12/23/2011 at 10:33 AM

Thats right… Noone thinks its okay to discriminate against Jews so openly. But regardless of blacks using the word, whites should be more sensitive and understand that its not for them to say….

If you are white and you know it is a sensitive word, what do you get out of using it, a chance to be racist without being “racist”. fucking fools.

“The term ‘nigga bitch” has come over from America and we have only this to describe this particular style of clothes.”

Right so this grown, educated (side-eye) women is honestly saying the onllyyyy possible adjective she could conjure to describe a style of dress (which is worn by women of every ethnicity) was nigga? and bitch? What a bare-faced lie. I think I’m more shocked by her ludicrous, half-hearted response than by the comment itself.

Also… I have never heard of these two terms used together.. in my life. I mean I live in London not in the woods..really? :s

Peace and love to every woman, every man, of any ethnicity, class or faith.. When will people realise that these things that ‘separate’ us are fiction. We are all people, we are all equal. I can’t believe how tiring it gets to try and explain this SIMPLE, GLARINGLY OBVIOUS fact… all this education and technology and wealth and opportunities and people still can’t grasp it. Open your minds.

She coulda used that word behind closed doors but no, she took it out to the public and got slapped with it. You don’t control anybodys mouth or pen..obviously. You can’t use a word and ask others not to say it. What kind of ocd are you on. Thats BS. If someone is bi-racial can they say HALF OF THE WORD? Or do you go on the 3/10rule…or whatever the measurement is. You want blood work? Should folks wait for a certificate in the mail that says its okay.
