Newt Gingrich Wants African Americans To Want Paychecks, Not Food Stamps

by admin on 01/06/2012 · 18 comments

Oh boy! Newt Gingrich causes controversy once again on the campaign trail with some controversial comments about food stamps after saying President Obama is the “greatest food stamp president” in history. Read the response from the NAACP and Newt’s reaction to their reaction after the jump.

“It is a shame that the former speaker feels that these types of inaccurate, divisive statements are in any way helpful to our country.  The majority of people using food stamps are not African-American, and most people using food stamps have a job.” – NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous

“I think you would have to be nuts to read those two paragraphs to conclude anything except that I was saying that every young American deserves the right to pursue happiness, every young American deserves the right to get a job.” – Newt Gingrich

When you don’t actually matter you can say what ever you want. To Newt, I’ll always be black, but you’ll never be president.

How is what he said not racist? His efforts to try and be helpful about the economic down turn of this country and the lack luster future of young people in this country keep stemming and circling back to negative stereotypes about black people.

Black people being hooked on welfare is an ugly untrue stereotype this he and others like to hearken to as the root of so may problems. As the NAACP said, we aren’t even the majority of people on food stamps but he mentions us. He says that our black president and being some welfare king.

He rests on a stereotype that I truly think he believes. That is what is racist. You don’t have to have hate to hold racist ideals.

I can see what he’s saying but I don’t think it’s food stamps that we need to be focused on paychecks only come from jobs. That’s like saying we need to eat but there’s no more animals. Another thing is I commend him for being so bold even tho I don’t think he should be using Obama as a escape goat when this country owes blacks so much and a few stamps for a presidency term is nothing when they spend billions on other countries raping them of there wealth and independence. If your gonna be bold be real. But on the real we need entrepreneurs not employees filing papers and taking a million smoke brakes in this country.

Hi everyone, Jewish guy here, with a few words about this.

When it’s so easy to get offended by a politician because he happened to single out black people as an example, one probably should take a step back and ask him or herself why they let this person have so much control? If you will react so predictably to mere words, you can be controlled very easily. It’s time for Americans, and black people especially, to free themselves from this kind of slavery.

Did Newt Gingrich utter a racist remark or not? Let’s be honest. Yes he did. The problem is that in his example he used a stereotype that whites have about blacks: they’re poor and on welfare. We all know this is ignorant thinking and stupid for a politician in the middle of a campaign to say.
Now, I imagine if he would have used my people as an example and said, “I don’t want Jews to have to be stingy with their money, I want them to make enough so they don’t have to be” I wouldn’t really be too upset. This man has no control over my thinking.

What black people ought to do is exactly what poster “Biz” stated. BTW, this isn’t a problem for just black people, it effects anyone who’s poor or middle class. We need people with good ideas to put them to work. Don’t get a business loan from a bank, communities could work together and pool money to create there own businesses or seek a grant. “We the people” have the power to change our own lives and we don’t need any politicians giving us permission. You already have the power to make yourself great. The opportunity isn’t there? You can create it.

Do you really want to get a job working for someone else’s prosperity? Black people need to start running businesses that they create, not just climbing white corporate ladders, paying white-run colleges for degrees, or working at low paying jobs. I know I’ve said alot that might upset black people and if I’ve offended you, I apologize but you need to grow up and look at reality. Those in power want you to stay in a position of weakness and that isn’t right. Shalom.
