After creating a runway show inspired by Amy Winehouse for Paris Fashion week Amy Winehouse’s outspoken dad Mitch has come forward to say he didn’t really appreciate that.

“The family were upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock. We’re still grieving for her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six month anniversary of Amy’s death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on … We’re proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life. That’s upsetting for her family.”

Watch the show above and let us know what you think.

I don’t get what they’re so upset about! It was a fashion show inspired by Amy Winehouse. INSPIRED by her. They didn’t mock her or her illness, parody her, or otherwise disrespect her. You would think the family would be honored that their daughter inspired that collection. But I guess some people have to whine and complain about something.

I think that this was a great representation of Amy, Seeing that Amy did not represent herself sometimes with self- respect. So for her family to make the statement that “but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life.” Look ! Amy wore a black Vail most of career!! The Vail of Alcoholism and drug addiction. In Short Amy Family needs a reality check don’t forget she was a alcoholic and a drug addict and be happy that people want to do anything in behalf of her in a positive way.

so you’d be happy with someone portraying artwork chronicling your deceased daughter’s most troubled times? or your father when he was… say a crackhead? or your mother?

you’d be cool with that? especially if they didn’t hit you up beforehand?

No one has to portray her at all she did that herself! The family should be satisfied that anyone’s taking her image at all and doing anything positive with it. It was not negative. A Negative portrayal of her would have been the models stumbling and crawling all over the stage with a drink in there hands while wearing some dirty pink slip on shoes and throwing up the middle finger as she was known to do. So in short it is what it is…. As for your example it would make since to me if the portrayal of Amy was negative, it was not .. So it doesn’t apply sorry.

no it applies because the notion that it wasn’t offensive is your OPINION. Not fact – opinion.

it’s his daughter – so in this instance it’s his opinion that matters.

just like if somebody was doing something about your daughter/mother/father – YOUR opinion would matter (if someone wanted to be respectful).

unfortunately for him, when you give yourself over to fame, the world sort of owns you.

I can understand how that would be hard for the family…and playing Rehab out of her entire body of work was insensitive. Finally, consulting with her family, even inviting the family to the show which Amy served as the muse would’ve been more appropriate. The models looked great, but in a sense the show had an erie feeling to it. RIP AMY!

I agree with the family. At the end of the day regardless of how we feel about Amy, her influence or how great the show may have been, they’re still a family that’s grieving especially being that it’s only been 6 months. And sadly, the pain that made her music so beautiful to us, was a very dark period in her life. Us listening to her albums and seeing her images will always resonate differently with her family and we need to understand that. We can’t ask them to see where Jean Paul Gaultier is coming from in respect to Amy, without seeing where they’re coming from in mourning of Amy.

I think they could have showed some sensitivity. I mean it’s less than a year since she passed, you’d think it might be fair to consult the family if your intentions are to pay tribute to her. I found the black veils a bit shocking it all seemed a bit light hearted at a time when her family are still grieving, just my opinion. What timeless music she made.

Yeah the black veils didn’t sit well with me at all.

Seems to me like he’s still trying hard to clean his act. Let’s forget about his racist rants and dismissal from House of Dior. Geez… it was not that long ago! I say… i agree with Amy’s parents. He should have at least asked permission or approval from her folks!
