Ricky Ross Is Still Not Happy With Rick Ross

by admin on 02/29/2012 · 16 comments

Even though one of his court cases against William “Rick Ross” Roberts II was tossed out in 2010, former drug kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross has gotten a new case opened against the rapper in California in hopes of getting him to stop using his name or pay up.  He seems to be getting more upset judging from his comments in a recent interview:

“I think he’s a complete idiot.  It’s a disgrace for me to have someone like this with my name. He doesn’t know what the name stands for, or how I got my name. He thinks that this name belongs to some big mafia guy who don’t care about nothing but himself and really, he’s just a pig…I sold drugs because I thought that was my only option. I know what it’s like not to have food in the refrigerator. These guys come from good backgrounds… To have somebody who went to college and whose moms had a good job then turn around and claim poverty and illiteracy, it’s totally ludicrous.”

What do you think should happen here?

I agree. Like that song I keep hearing in my city (Atlanta)– “Tony Montanna, Tony Montanna”. Shit! I guess if youre a rapper and not a real thug than you have to play one.

this has everything to do with money and little to do with the street credibility of a name. Did Mr. Freeway copyright the moniker? Then he doesn’t own it. It’s ironic that he’s using the U.S. court system in an attempt to enforce rights to his drug dealer alias… who says jail doesn’t reform men??? lol

You want your name back Freeway? I say, get it the old fashion way homie.

Officer Ricky probably has his lawyers working day and night to fight this case. If his rise to fame on a fake name and a fabricated drug story emerges to the light, his career would collapse over night.

@ my .02, you sound like a fool lol, his real name is Ricky Donnell Ross lol copyright the moniker? are you kidding me, its his real name… do you think Al Capone, Pablo Escobar trademarked their names.. They had no idea fake rappers would one day come along and steal their names and live fake lives but I’m sure you support that shit

in fact the real reason “my $0.02″ is a fucking idiot is that in the US you’re actually granted instant protection for your name as a mark and all derivatives.

example: Jeremy Lin started popping and somebody tried to trademark Linsanity. They got turned down – but Jeremy Lin got it.

another example: same day Blue Ivy was born – somebody tried to trademark Blue Ivy as a mark as relates to media and fashion. They didn’t get it. Hov and Beyonce did though.

Your name is your own mark – ESPECIALLY IF YOU BECOME FAMOUS.

In a real lawsuit: Officer Ricky would lose easily. The only way this works for Officer Ricky is if the real Rick Ross allows him to license the name. Real shit, Officer ricky is so famous and he stands to lose so much in a suit, I’m surprised he hasn’t started cutting this dude a check already.

The difference between guys like Rick Ross and 50 Cent is that 50 Cent is a nickname. It has no protection so 50 can use it. Rick Ross is a government – that’s an inherent mark and is protected (YOU DON’T HAVE TO FILE).
