Blackberry Maker RIM Pulling Out Of The Consumer Market?

by admin on 03/30/2012 · 12 comments

With sales declining for some time and the chief executives recently stepping down it was only a matter of time before RIM made some major changes to the once red hot company who lost an additional $125 million in the fourth quarter.  From the news report:

Commenting on RIM’s figures, Victor Basta, director of Magister Advisors asked bluntly, “Why should RIM exist when all other smartphone makers are developing better products faster?” Basta said, “RIM has already lost the consumer battle and its main asset is its enterprise customer base, so retrenching to a corporate-only focus makes sense.”

Blackberry is now officially a ‘work only’ device.

UPDATE – The company has responded via Twitter, check it out after the jump.

I love my blackberry, I wish they were more relevant, but oh well. I don’t understand why people are still pressed over iphones, like.. EVERYONE has one.

I think they messed up because of their internet interface. If they could have got that down better they might have been able to put up a fight in the consumer segment. then again they weren’t pushing the envelope very hard.

Most people just stuck around for the instant messaging and the keyboard…i think. They probably left a lot of value on the table by not moving with the trend.

iPhones are cool but it feels like they’re for followers–who wants all that control on their phone… I’m sticking with my Droid.

I had both but like my blackberry more. The iphone is not a phone, its a device for people who like to play. All of those apps are crazy. Ipone for kids. Blackberry for the working class.
