How in the hell was Michelle a least influential person……
because she got relegated to a mission but given no power to really do anything about it.
she wants kids to eat better and she’s done a lot of work on it but this is what really needs to be done:
-phys ed back in schools. it’s the first thing that’s cut from budgets. she doesn’t have the power to do anything about that.
-take vending machines out of schools. again, she doesn’t have that power either.
-take subsidized foods out of the school lunch supply. milk and milk products and grain products that are subsidized by the government get into the supply at the expense of fruits and vegetables. again, michelle doesn’t have the power to actually do anything about that.
-finally, devote a portion of the educational dollar to community rec centers. libraries are becoming obsolete slowly – how about a rec center where every library used to be. or how about making rec centers/libraries. a community place in EVERY community where kids can go to play together in any kind of weather.
it’s not michelle’s fault she has little influence in this matter. some of it is barack’s and the rest of it is lobbyists.
I love michelle (I mean it – no disrespect Barack but I would get all up in her situation if she let me) but PSAs won’t stop kids from getting fat.
Totally agree w/ Anon. But Michelle was never really meant to make policy changes (remember the hell Bill and Hilliary Clinton caught because dared to make real changes to the healthcare system). Obesity is her FLOTUS pet-project to “keep her busy”. Laura Bush’s project was literacy/education and Nancy Reagan had a hand in creating DARE and the “Just Say No” to drugs bullsh*t. Michelle Obama’s FLOTUS role is to not actually make changes; it only shines a light on what needs to be changed by others (mostly rich white men). That’s not Mr. Obama’s fault.
