by admin on 11/29/2012 · 14 comments

A 7-year old girl who was diagnosed with leukemia named Mykayla Comstock finds herself at the center of a controversy after it was revealed that her mother gives her cannabis filled capsules as part of her medical marijuana treatment. Although in her home state of Oregon it is legal for minors to take medical marijuana with permission from a guardian, doctors are torn and some have even refused to treat her.

Listen to her story and let us know what you would do if this was your child.

I don’t mind the use of marijuana, but why don’t they give her cookies or bread instead of her smoking it. That would be more responsible.

If it helps with her pain I do not see the problem. Even if she uses a vaporizer to only get the THC, I don’t see there being an issue with using marijuana as a part of her healing I see no issue. People need to chill on this anti-marijuana kick especially when it can be used for good.

Maybe as an absolute last resort, and even then I probably would still have a hard time allowing it.

serious research is indicating that the regular use of cannabis before the age of 18 reduces the user’s IQ by anywhere from 8 – 10 points. the average IQ is 100 (within a range of 90-110). assuming that she is smack dab within the average range, the use of cannabis at this age could have detrimental effects on her ability to function as she gets older.

interestingly enough, the same research results indicate that the use of cannabis AFTER the age of 18 does NOT have the same effect.

but what do i know? i just have three degrees in the field of psychology.

Get older?

first of all… idiot, she’s fighting for her life. she might not “get older.”

second, you quote a study but don’t post links. most academics know better than that.

third, smoking reduces IQ regardless of exactly what it is you’re smoking – because smoking (including cigarettes) introduces neurotoxins into the bloodstream and smoking also induces a hypoxic state. so the study needs to focus not just on what is being smoked, but the delivery method.

are there studies where pharmaceutical grade variants delivered via standard medicinal vectors also reduce IQ? I’d be interested in that study because that would be more relevant to this little girl.

right, smarty pants? *shrugs* perhaps you need degrees from better institutions.

How is this any different from any other drug? You get cancer and they give you chemo which can kill good cells as well as the cancerous cells. Psychologists refer to IQ and brain development issues, but anti-depressants will be prescribed QUICKLY….I just do not understand the double standard or hypocrisy of our society when it comes to drugs….Every day there are millions of commercials for drugs that have numerous side effects that are deadly and can create more problems then the one they are being prescribed to help, but we are to ACCEPT those, but we are led to believe weed is so bad and harmful for you…..Yet Viagra made Phizer…..BILLIONS

Mom needs to juice the vegetable leaves aside from providing some pain relief; there’s hope for a cure – not just palliative (pain management) care. Watch:
