In her new book “Grace, Gold & Glory” Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas reveals that seven months before she became America’s sweetheart at the Olympics she texted her mom saying she fell out of love with gymnastics. 16-year old Douglas says that being homesick and the racism in gymnastics had her ready to give it all up and move back home to work at a local Chic-Fil-A fast food restaurant and live off of the money she had won at the national championships.

thank God she didn’t give up
Yeah the best thing she did was beat them at the #1 stage for her sport. And by them I mean white people.
This is why the powers that be will always be oppressive forces. The original “man” is the best at everything for a reason.
and here is life’s greatest truth – accomplishment and happiness are not the same thing.
she was unhappy with the whole game right until winning championships and the olympics changed her life FOREVER. Now she has the rest of her life to be an olympic champion.
If you want to be happy – go off somewhere and do that – but you ain’t winning shit.
you want to win something? strap your guns on and go to war.
Congratulations again, Gabby. God bless.
Good point. She showed us what gymnastics is supposed to look like.
True story. If you wan’t both you seriously have to fight for it
Oppressed people of the world should take note.
I think this warrants the classic quote, “THEY SHOULDA NEVER GAVE YOU NIGGAS MONEY”
That was so clever & hilarious… when Dave Chappelle said it in 2004.
It reminds me of another hilarious joke:
“Why is a racist like a dog? Both mark their territory with shit.”
The oppressed are always tailor made for success if they persevere. A diamond is only produced under the most extreme pressure. Don’t run from strife, embrace austerity, it will prepare you to endure any obstacle. Far too often today we want it easy, but this challenge has-more than talent- fortified the oppressed to achieve above and beyond what not only the oppressor expected but what the oppressed ever thought they could achieve. This has been our secret weapon.
well said.
…and then she had to deal with “us” talking about her hair….at the age of 16…smh
Right!!! Black people need to do better…..
