Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Kills Himself And His Girlfriend

by admin on 12/01/2012 · 9 comments

Sad news to report in the sports world today.  Although details are still coming in it appears that Kansas City Chiefs linebacker 25-year old Jovan Belcher who had been playing for four years shot and killed his girlfriend in front of his mother then himself in front of the Chiefs head coach and general manager this morning.  From the news report out of Kansas City:

Police are investigating two deadly shootings Saturday morning that they said are related.  The shootings involve a Chiefs player and his girlfriend.  The first shooting was reported about 8 a.m. at a home near 54th Street and Chrysler Avenue. The second shooting was reported a short time later at a Chiefs practice facility located on the Arrowhead facility.  Officials said the Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend and then drove to the practice facility where he shot and killed himself.

Photos of the couple on Facebook show them happy and smiling with their 3-month old daughter.  Our condolences to their families, this is terrible.

It’s clearly not an issue with football this man clearly had some sort of mental & emotional problems. How do you connect football to be the blame?

because repeated concussions gives you post-concussive syndrome.

one of the major side effects is depression and suicidal tendencies.

i’m saying this from experience playing college ball.

I understand the affects of concussions but I think your view is much too narrow. Your esentially saying that football is the ONLY factor that caused this to happen, and by no means if he did not play footbal. For example: was a plumber, the exact same thing wouldn’t?

Without knowing the full details, I will admit that football concussions MAY have contributed to an unstable mental state of mind that lead to a murder/suicide. But I cannot accept you to instantly blaming the sport alone. It’s a physical sport, things happen, but that doesn’t mean Tom Brady next week is gonna go on a murder spree too because of just concussions.

-I never said it was the only factor.

-i never even mentioned Tom Brady.

-I blamed it in this instance since he’s a football player – in a year when Junior Seau did this exact same thing – and a number of ex-pros and college players have done it in the past five. I challenge you to find another professional sport that has this sheer number of violent suicides (hockey is actually starting to catch up). Just google the data; all the pros who donated their brains to science after suicides or early death – 13 of 14 had severe brain trauma associated with playing football. it’s gotten so bad that college kids are getting bad CT scans of their brains after concussions and have to make choices – including this guy.

-#1. football selects for the most violent. #2. repeated concussions make you depressive and suicidal. #1+ #2 = do the math.

-you cannot accept…? that’s your business. By all means, put your kid into football. good luck.

Junior Seau didnt do the exact same thing. It”s unfortunate, the only pro athlete I know that aint with a white woman goes and does this.

Junior Seau beat his girlfriend then tried to commit suicide the first time by driving off a cliff. He failed.

So he shot himself in the chest so that his brain could still be used for research. Fighting the demons even to the end.

Respect.
