As the nation continues to cope with the terrible crimes committed by 20-year old murderer Adam Lanza we are also learning about his mother 52-year-old Nancy Lanza who was also murdered by her son in the home they shared. According to several sources including her former sister in law Marsha Lanza, Nancy was part of the Doomsday Prepper movement and preparing for the collapse of society, rarely letting people into her home:
Marsha said [Nancy] had turned her home ‘into a fortress’. She added: ‘Nancy had a survivalist philosophy which is why she was stockpiling guns. She had them for defense. She was stockpiling food. She grew up on a farm in New Hampshire. She was skilled with guns. We talked about preppers and preparing for the economy collapsing.’
Since her divorce from her husband GE executive Peter Lanza Nancy had been receiving over $300,000 a year and did not work.

I agree; not working can be hazardous to one’s mental health. Imagine just spending all day entertaining crazy ideas. Fun but definitely causes one to lose touch with reality.
