I find this very sad actually. Morals are gone and money is being used to exploit urban and rural people. Honey boo boo, shawty lo, Amish Mafia, LHH, basketball wives. etc. They are going to start to define people.

I have to say this is just degrading to black people and inforces stereotypes. I’m starting to think we can’t keep getting mad at white people for calling us Niggers if we’re gonna keep acting one, then go parade it over national TV. There is nothing flattering about seeing a black man with 10 baby mama’s and 11 kids. We need to stop this kind of foolishness and bring back positive black shows like The Cosby Show & The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

you’re an idiot.

That’s your big comeback? You must have been the debate champion in your cell block to come up with such a intelligent and descriptive response like that. Maybe next time try to elaborate how you find my views to be incorrect instead of saying 4 words like you just passed the 3rd grade.

Anonymous 12/28/2012 at 10:23 AM

ok. how’s this.

you’re an idiot. here’s why.

-one show is not representative of black people, unless you’re racist. if you’re racist, you’re irrational by definition. therefore a “positive” black show like cosby or fresh prince would do nothing to change your opinion of black people.

-this is the crux of your argument as to why we can’t “keep getting mad at white people for calling us Niggers.” LOL – so white people are the arbiters of all culture and the ultimate judges of acceptable culture? is it our job to do what we can so white people won’t call us niggers?????? WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. You’re so fucked up in the head. fucked.

-flattering: when was it television’s job to only present flattering things?

-enforces… not “inforces.” the word “inforce” has been obsolete for generations. this suggests you’re old… and likely partly explains why it’s so important to you what white people think of you.

1. The more positive shows there are of black people or any race does improve the general public overall image of that race.

2. Shows like this piece of shit, only creates more shows of the same crap which stars to promote an image of the black culture that is not true and without proper education there are individuals who will believe this shit to be true. Example: the show “Cops”, in the 90′s, 70% of the people shown on it were black but the America population of black Americans was only near 14%. This show promoted a negative stereotype that contributed to such police brutality, and illegal stop and frisk searches in major cities.

3. You don’t need to be old to know that nowadays television and media have a strong influence on how people are portrayed both in TV shows and real life.

4. Your right it’s not television’s job to present flattering images but its our responsibility to speak out when those images are possibly damaging to a culture. White people are not the judges of acceptable culture but to ensure our culture is not being misrepresented we should take a step back and look at what were presenting to others and evaluate if this is right.

5. Lastly the positive black shows, in my opinion, can change the opinion of black people the same as the negative ones can too. What really matters is if we as black people are going to let these negative ignorant bullshit shows gain more success having a rapper with 10 babies mamas and 11 kids be more important to show on TV to represent oyr culture. Instead of the lawyer, Uncle Phil, or Dr. Cosby

Anonymous 12/28/2012 at 1:49 PM

1. shows are not PR. they are designed to make a profit. that is all. nothing is wrong with that.

2. piece of shit? yes, you sound impartial and rational.

3. black culture? what is black culture? There are Nigerians, Jamaicans, Brazilians, Belizeans, Dominicans, black folk IN THAILAND and India… all black and all with culture different as night and day from one another. who are you to dictate what an image of black culture needs to be? why does there just need to be ONE black culture? Only racists sees “blacks” as one group. And racists are irrational. trying to appeal to irrationality is the definition of stupidity.

-Cops? Cops? no one under 60 watched that show. that’s called confirmation bias. they watched things that reaffirmed their worldview. they were already racist. cops didn’t make them racist.

-television and media have much less an influence on how people are perceived in 2013. social media is far more important as it produces more data points and in realtime. TV because of the necessary delay – are playing catchup to real popular culture. Man you’re so out of touch. You think impressionable people are gonna watch this show? it’s fucking 45 year old shawty low. get real nigga. this is what happens when you have the same opinion for ten years and think it’s still relevant in changing times. you sound like you.

4. it’s not my responsibility to speak out that a show like this is damaging to my culture – because it presupposes that my “culture” is compromised of a group of idiots who follow everything they see and are too dumb to know right from wrong. perhaps that’s your culture. it’s not mine – I don’t know anybody like that and I grew up in the hoodest of hoods.

5. negative shows predominate because people like watching negative shit. why? because most people tend to be honest, hardworking, and upstanding, and watching negative shit is a bit of a vacation from that – like watching a car crash.

and nothing about what I just saw made me think negative: this is a dude taking care of all his children and their mothers. do I agree with his choices? No. Are my tax dollars being spent on his mistakes? NOPE. Is he upstanding. Yup. Is he handling his business to the best of his ability? YUP. THAT IS FREEDOM. That’s what our forefathers died for – so if a nigga wanted to have 11 kids and live in the suburbs with TI he could. God bless them for that.

your assessment of this as trash is because you have internalized European standards for “class” – modern marriage is a political and social construct designed to force men to take care of their children and also to ensure unfit niggas got wives (instead of fit dudes taking multiple wives and leaving a gang of niggas with nothing). Mitt Romney’s grandfather went to mexico in order to keep all his wives. Is he trash too?

Your filter is so “house slave” I almost pity you.

I hear what your saying but at the end of the day this is reality! And it’s about time reality tv start actually documenting reality. It might not be yours or mines but it damn sure is his and the reality of many other people in this world. So what It’s a problem cause it’s on tv for white people to see? But please Let’s not act like this isn’t actually going on in society and it’s not only African Americans. One thing I will say is we have men out there right now with 1 mother and one child and won’t do a damn thing for that child and tho shawty lo might not be ideal to you at least he’s taken care of all 11 of them kids and somehow making it work with the mothers of his children for the sake of his kids. And let’s be very clear about this we got Italians gypsies Amish rednecks etc all looking crazy on TV right now causthreats where the ratings are at so is not a African American thing!

Honesty I thank you for understanding my point. And looking at it from the reality TV prospective I agree with what your saying. I don’t mean to bring down Shawtly Lo cause he is feeding those kids and doing his part. Just a little concerned about how this might spiral out of control and into more shows

Some 15 year old girl somewhere will be watching this show faithfully. Whatever happened to the Cosby Show?

Unfortunately, this is much more prevalent in the TV-watching Black community than the Cosby family these days. So it’s relatable.

instead of looking at the ‘negative’ that he has all these women and children with them can we look at the bright side. This man has 11 children all being taken care of his baby moms all get along to a certain extent and hes owning up to his actions and taking care of business. This is only ratchet because its Shawty Lo nobody will say anything to them Sister Wives on TLC, maybe because theyre white and religious

i aint bout to have 11 kids with 10 women but shoutout Shawty Lo his family seems to be working and you gotta respect that
