He writes for the Miami Times in an article titled “Rick Ross: Calm Down Before You End Up Like Biggie.”
Dear Rick Ross:
As someone who survived several rap beefs, I’m going to give you some advice. You need to seriously address the threats and attempts on your life. You have worked hard to become a big name in hip-hop. You’ve paid your dues and you’ve grown lyrically since the release of your debut album, Port of Miami, in 2006. You’ve arrived, buddy.
But all this gangster bullshit is jeopardizing your career. No club or arena is going to risk people getting shot. You can forget about doing any tours or CD signings. And if you can’t make money, watch how fast Warner Bros. Records turns on you. I know from experience how venues and the music industry would like to black ball you.
You have the Gangster Disciples breathing down your neck because you’ve named-dropped Larry Hoover, the gang’s founder, in your music. Unlike the record and book publishing industries, these bad dudes don’t understand the concept of public domain. They see you getting rich forever by rapping about their leader, and they don’t like it. That’s why they’re on YouTube talking about how you need to go see them and cut a check.
Continued after the jump.
It’s a shame you can’t enjoy life without spending part of your earnings on heavy security or risking your freedom by purchasing an arsenal. Remember, that’s what landed T.I. and Lil Wayne in prison. You don’t want that to happen to you. However, those are the consequences of rapping about being something you’re not.
Hip-hop has a rich history of college guys who never committed a crime rapping about moving kilos of cocaine and taking out snitches. Every gangster rapper takes on the role of a real hood legend to build up street cred. But I don’t want you to fall into the trap of believing you are really a gangster.
Trust me, you don’t want to go out like Biggie Smalls or Tupac. It’s time you squash your beefs.

This guy.
Uncle Luke broke him down! Real talk this letter was right!
I don’t like Luke because of the music he put out degraded women. But I will say his words of advice are so so true! Good for him.. I hope that Rick Ross really takes his advise and not be another Dumb Raper with the gangster dream.. Don’t worry about what people make think he should to worry about his Life and the Life of those around him.If you owe the Gangster Disciple money pay them the darn money and keep your Fat mouth Shut!!! Also if his stupid music and fat mouth doesn’t kill him that Fat Belly will.. Loss some weight Rick..
^^^^^ lol, lol, LMAO…so true
So, this is an “open letter” Luke wrote to the Miami Times?? If Luke was really looking out for Ross…why didn’t he just call him & tell him this? Why would you make this public? It’s unecessary.
Either way you look at it Ross has problems–if he pays the GDs money, he’s gonna become an ATM for them. If he doesn’t, they may kill him.
I’ve never believed Ross from the time he said he knows Noreaga in a song. To me, if you’re involved with someone of that caliber, you’re not putting that information into a damn song. So off rip we knew Ross was fake. However, he makes great music, to his credit. He doesn’t need to rap about gangster things because nobody believes him anyway *shrug.
Rap is the new WWE, it’s all fake.
Sometimes you gotta put folks on full blast in order for them to really listen. But I totally agree with you, Ross is caught in a catch 22…paying these dudes off is only going to create more problems…smh.
good for Uncle Luke. playing the grown up. Uncle Russ needs help.
so luke is running his mouth about a situation he doesn’t completely understand because he’s on the outside looking in?
this is the dude who used to have whores sucking and fucking on stage AT HIS SHOWS.
really? and niggas respect this?
So because of that he can’t give some street advice? You forget Luke is always from the streets. You forget him and snoop dogg had some serious beef back in the day and had suge walking in Miami strapped. And l’m sure Luke knows rick ross background just like trick daddy who called him out on being a C.O.
Nigga when I give people advice I don’t post it publicly for everyone to read on facebook or twitter.
If I had to give you advice… especially life or death advice we’d do it face to face.
my points:
-life or death situation. commenting on the situation in public makes it worse… but can’t really help it.
-could have done it privately if he really cared. but didn’t. it’s because he’s attention whoring – not being altruistic. even in the bible you’re counseled to keep your charity private. when it isn’t private – it’s not really charity. so then what are luke’s motives now?
-he’s gossiping, speculating on a ton of details. no bueno.
-he’s morally compromised. until he publicly atones for his past in the same space where he’s throwing stones – he is no moral compass.
I was born in 89 i don’t know this niggas music or resume. i don’t care. but no real men i know would have handled this situation in this way. nor would any dude i know ever get respect talking reckless about another person’s life or death situation. the stuff he mentioned could even be used in a legal case against ross if law enforcement were so inclined. SLOPPY.
but then idiots value spectacle over virtue. i guess that’s why everybody likes this.
Like you said you don’t know this mans music or his accomplishments young nigga! Luke -vs- the USA court case freedom of speech in music was groundbreaking. Luke uses his own money for football youth camps in Miami & a lot of NFL & college niggas went through his program. Luke is the hood mayor of Miami. However he chose to tell him open letter, message in a bottle or sky writing he let Ross know & I’m sure he respects Luke’s words. Legal case words used?? Everything he said is public knowledge fuck u talking bout?
Exactly. Thanks BP…300!
That’s some real shit. I hope Rick doesn’t take it personal. More rappers, beside Rick Ross, need to take this advice for themselves!
luke is pretty much shitting on the culture he help to create. even if there is some truth to his words, this letter is more so about him than rick ross, and he getting ppl to think about him…
i remember him getting on cam talking to the news about shutting down memorial day weekend in south beach. he made it seem like the weekend only attract criminals and it should be shut down. he only did that b/c he was trying to run for office.
These MMG fools are clearly living in a fantasy.
I think Omarion has probably been thru more shit than the entire roster.
I agree there is truly NOTHING gangster about MMG now.
Gunplay – Jumped by 50 and his crew
Rick Ross – drive by shooting, Fight w/ Young Jeezy, Dissed by 50
Meek Mill – Dissed HARD by Cassidy in 10 min track
I like MMG and their music but to quote The Chappelle Show this looks like an episode of “When Keepin’ it Real Goes Wrong”. Listen to Luke
