I’m sorry but this is some ignorant, coonish-type shit. She has to know she is being exploited. The news station that interviewed her (KFOR) obviously doesn’t have any sort of integrity. Neither does the dentist using her in a commercial. Why do news channels only show us when we are unkempt or in distress instead talking to us while shopping, at the coffee shop, on our way to work, or during man on the street interviews not centered in the hood? Why? I won’t get into that. But what can you say, when we live in the free world. Get your money lady, but know that it has consequences and that all skrilla isn’t good skrilla.
Why is it always an “US” thing? Why cant we be individuals responsibile for our own actions? Why do you see the black race and not just sweet brown? Just questions.
Because the black American population are largely concentrated in certain areas – ghettos. Representation of black Americans are overwhelmingly in areas of entertainment. Entertainers are made to entertain; as a result they are usually associated with stereotypical hyperboles. Because the greater population of the United States is usually segregated from black populations, they come to associate what they see in the media with all blacks. It is stereotyping. It is wrong, but it is reality.
this commercial is reminiscent of some black face, jiggaboo, moon cricket, coonery bull shiet!
but hey, do ya thing lady. I guess the money is better than nothing.
stop hating, i’ll do the same thing to put food in my child’s mouth. It was legal and legit. peace
aaaahhhhh! I needed that…thank you!
I partially agree with the first commenter, who said that she was exploited by the News Station that initially interviewed her. I’m aware that they always seem to find the most outlandish characters they can find when interviewing black people. But, since she’s been able to capitilize off of her catchphrase & turn it into a viable career for herself (she has other projects in the works), I can’t hate on that. I say; “good for her!”
If you watch her Hot 97 interview, you can tell that she’s a very sweet (for lack of a better word), down-to-earth, humble lady who deserves all the fame & good fortune that she’s experiencing. If I met her, I’d give her a hug.
Good for her, yes. But is it good for people whose skin is kissed by the sun? I say no. All this will do is encourage more local TV camera operators to go to those neighborhoods and shoot more buffoonish shit so they can get hits on their websites.. What will it be next? I don’t even want to think about it. The danger is that it makes folks who are used to people of color, think that we are all that way. Whether it is a coonish character, or if it is wearing a hoodie like Trayvon Martin. There is a danger in this shit. I love being a brotha more than anything. I love hanging in my old hood. I wear hoodies and Timbs. I will verbally or physically slap someone who tries me. But at the same time, I’m educated, I have a family and I love rocking a dope three-piece suit every now and again. What I’m simply saying is that all sides of our beautiful people have to be shown. That is the responsibility of media, but it seldom does it.
If you are what you say that you are; an educated, well-dressed, family man, than just be that. Be the change that you wish to see in the world. You have no control over what others do in the world, you only have control of yourself & the way that you present yourself to the world. Your example will help to combat the sterotypes that the media portrays of our people.
News stations always pick the most ignorant person to talk to. It’s not just black people, they chose some dumbass white people, too. Like the kind who have to be subtitled.
I’m out b
How much is she getting paid? TOO MUCH if you ask me.
