MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry says what we’ve been saying, in more eloquent and bigger words.  Good job or it’s not that serious?

It’s very serious! White people LOVE to take from other cultures and try to make it their own. They’ve been doing that for decades. And they look like fools when they do.

“White people LOVE to take from other cultures and try to make it their own…”
You know what white people are? White people are Irish, Scottish, English, French, Norwegian, Spanish, African, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Argentinian, Indian–both American and Asian–Aboriginal Australian and whatever else I have forgotten. EVERYONE IS EVERYTHING!!!! We’ve all been inter-marrying and having babies and and mixing DNA for centuries and we’re all just one big mix of a bunch of different colors.
and then, A) I like how you assign the “Taking” to WHITE PEOPLE. Do you think it is only white people doing the fake Harlem Shake? Nope. Look closely. There are people of every color under the sun (including black ) fake-shaking it in all those videos, yeah?
and b) Ummmmm, do you think ANY culture under the sun has just stayed inside their own culture and never borrowed or stolen or appreciated what someone else does? Even black people do it.
and c) There AIN’T NUTTIN’ new under the sun, Sweetheart!! Every book ever written, every dance ever choreographed, every song ever created, every canvas ever painted depends in some form or fashion on what came before it. Don’t even TRY to imagine otherwise. Gimme a break–”White people take….” Really? REALLY??? everyone takes. period.

The only thing that will make any of this garbage that goes on between the different colors of our race will ONLY EVER change if we quit saying stuff like, “Don’t you think we oughta take care of our OWN race?” We’re all part of the same freakin’ race. We just happen to have DNA which came from ancestors who were born somewhere else. We’re the same race. Start figuring it out and quit hating people of other colors just cos they didn’t have the same DNA that you did. Neither you nor I had a single thing to say about how we look. Why in the world is this garbage still going on in 2013? When will our world be educated enough to know that all people stand on level ground at the foot of the cross and that we are EXACTLY THE SAME in all the essentials? WHEN?????????
And p.s. this is written to everyone not just the post of the person to whom I am responding.

Haha I get what she’s trying to say. I don’t know if I think it’s that serious.

On a penile note, I would like to have sex with her. Righteous indignation in intelligent black women, even if misguided, gives me massive erections.

@1:55 – 2:13 please slow down with these lies… on a REAL history note… Harlem was a “meeting ground” for Blacks with talent from all over the country… mainly from the South… Harlem didn’t raise that music or those styles… those styles were brought to NY… wtf fake ass history are you talking ??? People came to NY with their talent because there was a club that made lots of money of black folks talent while giving them a little money back and a springboard to possible fame and stardom. Hell… the Harlem Globetrotters aren’t even originally from Harlem and didn’t even play in Harlem… They are ALL from Chicago and just used the name Harlem b/c that is where Blacks were flocking to LOL…

I don’t know if this woman is a NYer but if so, the history you all are told is VERY flawed… and if she isn’t a NYer than that is even worse….

Look up “Harlem Renaissance” and see how many of those people were actually born and raised in NY… answer is… not very many.

SIDEEYES 03/07/2013 at 3:10 PM

The Harlem Renissance was in the 1920s But even before that Harlem became an African-American neighborhood/community in early 1900. (How long do you want a group of people to live somewhere before they can claim to be a product of the culture of the neighborhood they live in)?

THANK YOU!!! The point she’s really making without actually saying it, is white people love to try to steal what’s ours (black culture) and claim it as their own or try to reinvent it.

Reply

Allyn 03/17/2013 at 2:06 AM

No white people have tried to “claim” it. They’re just having fun.

You realize how you sound? “Harlem Shake-BLACKS ONLY”

I thought we were passed that time.

so what you are saying is that if a white person who can sing real well and was performing in another part of the country, moves to Harlem at age 20 because of opportunity, makes it in the industry 2 years later.. that person is a representative and product of Harlem ?

What you are saying makes 0 sense, I watched the clip and VA VA is right, most of those involved during that time period were not from NY and not raised in Harlem.. so what she is saying is wrong.

SIDEEYES 03/08/2013 at 11:02 AM

Your example is……..
I stated that African-Americans have lived in Harlem for over a 100 years and you give me an hypothetical of someone living there for 2 years. Do you think you made a good point, or was that a joke?

It is really hard to argue with fools.

Thank you SIDEEYES for taking care of that idiot. 2 paragraphs of pointless bs.

Anonymous 03/08/2013 at 10:05 PM

I would think that you are the fool here lol.. you changed the topic from what VA VA was originally arguing. nobody is saying that blacks did not live in Harlem for 100s of years, the point was the players of the Harlem Renaissance were not from Harlem.. the same as the hypothetical example I gave of the white person coming to Harlem for opportunity. So based on what the woman said in the video, that history is false. Most of those blacks were not born or raised in Harlem.. therefore Harlem did not breed that talent… they were the stage for opportunity for Blacks to play in front of whites and get noticed. that is the point haha so I agree, it is hard to argue with fools, you being that fool

BAM! 03/07/2013 at 11:52 AM

I get it. A certain group of people (European Americans) always steal, water-down, and/or “newly discover” something Black folks have been doing for decades.

Reply

Anonymous 03/07/2013 at 2:43 PM

lol of course it’s always blame a white man

Reply

You're a hater!!!! 03/07/2013 at 5:58 PM

Yes, white people are the real true blame for everything fucked up in this world.

Reply

Anonymous 03/07/2013 at 12:12 PM

She’s just passionate about it. BAM! basically said it.
I take dancing serious. It’s an artform, so when people try to “newly discover” something that was already out and make a mockery of it, it’s disheartening. Also, making it a fad that only lasts a month.

Yes me, for 5mins she talked about a dance, at least in your mind that was what she talked about. In an enlightened person’s mind she was talking about one race stealing another race’s culture and calling it something else. You think Native Americans celebrate Thanksgiving? Hell no. If you allow someone to continue to take things from you and yours without so much as saying boo…you and yours will end up with nothing to call your own. I bet you believe black people own the “rights” to jumpin the broom too…smh.

This can’t be a real story… She is talking as if the Harlem Shake was a form of that originated during the 1930′s. Then she wants people to be up in arms over people putting their own spin to a dance move… Com’on son!!!!! If you are offended by the “New Harlem Shake” and you believe people are being racially insensitive Kill yourself…

I get her point, but I believe that they just needed another segment. It is just another pointless viral thing to do like planking. No need to make a history segment out of harlem shaking.
