Hip Hop Superstar Nas, is headlining a free “Concert for Virginia Tech University”. Nas will be performing alongside John Mayer, Phil Vassar, and Virginia’s own The Dave Matthews Band. The Sept. 6th memorial will take place at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium to launch the 2007-2008 school year. All the artists taking part in the show have waived their fees. The Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund is not covering the expenses for the event, the sales of the commemorative items sold during the show will aid in picking up the tab.

President of Virginia Tech,Charles Steger, released a statement saying, “We’re extremely grateful for the compassion and generosity of these artists who wished to create a very special event where our students,faculty and staff can come together to celebrate the spirit and resiliency of our university community as we begin a new academic year”. This concert is not open to the general public. It is a way for the University and the nearby communities that were effected by the April shootings that took place at Virgina Tech University when student, Seung Hui Cho, killed 32 people, wounded 25 and then turned the gun on himself, to move on from the tragedy.

Full time and part time students matriculated for the upcoming fall semester are given one free ticket. Virginia Tech faculty, staff, emergency and wage, and 2007 spring and summer graduates are invited to the show as well.
