Kanye West moves 930,000 GRADUATION CD’s

And the winner is… Kanye West! According to Hits Daily Double, the super cool MC will move just about 930,000 units of his 3rd LP GRADUATION for the #1 spot on next weeks Billboard 200 Charts.
Kanye’s competition 50 Cent didn’t fare too badly as his CURTIS CD will scan about 660,000 units.
So now that the numbers are almost in (Official figures on Wednesday) and the hoopla is done…

Kanye had the better album, and I think 50’s boasting about he was going to sell more actually hurt him. I think it made people do the opposite. 50’s music the last few months had also lacked, so I think that also played a part.

I guess we should start referring to him as “Kanye West SSK”. Here the thing that everyone underestimated, Kanye has crazy cross over appeal he goes on to “Ellen” a show meant for middle aged white house wifes and performs “Stronger” 50 would never be excepted in an environment like that, Kanye’s music just appeals to a wider audience but he manages not to sell out because he talks about social issues no one else has managed to pull that off.
But aside form the whole Kanye vs 50 thing 930,000 is a crazy amount of records to sell in 1 week. If I’m not mistaken Kanye just broke his own record for records sold in the fist week by a Def Jam artist and just think about all the hot artist that came off of Def Jam DMX, Ja Rule, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Beasty Boys, Run DMC ect. I hate to be the first to say it but like it or not with number like this Kanye’s name has to start coming up in the conversation when you talk about the top 10 dead or alive MC’s.

I tell you right now we can start by taking Ice Cube and Kane off that list I’m a fan of both especially Kane but there not top ten status. And I’m not saying Kanye belongs on the list but he should be in the conversation along with 50 Cent if where being fare.

first off 50 has sold far more records than kanye. its not so much about kanye having crossover appeal cause 50 has that down to a science. 50 has fans from all demographs. but what i think hurt 50 was the fact that he had said that he would retire from rapping had he lost to kanye. that alone made people wanna purchase kanye’s album to see if he would actually keep his word. moreover, kanye promoted the hell outta his album, and 50 did kinda as well. 50’s own words ended up hurting him in the end. he didnt even hit the 700k mark. 930k is huge…
kanye has basically almost sold a million units in 1 weeks time. that is great, but last time kanye had a huge first week but he only ended up selling 3 million units. 50 sold 1 million units his 1st week out and ended up selling 5 million domestically. Neither of kanye’s albums have outsold either one of 50’s on a domestic level.
now its time to see if kanye can keep the sales up. but wow im amazed at how well kanye has done…

oh and 1 other thing is Ellen has a wide fanbase… there are plenty of people that like her not just middle - aged women. Ellen has the charm charisma and personality. wether u know it or not plenty of rappers are always on her show including 50 himself has been there a couple of times.
so u may wanna just rethink ur theory…

Your theory doesn’t hold water if 50 has fans from all demographs then why did they all run out and buy Kanye’s album to see if he’d retire those don’t sound like fans to me. But here the big reason 50 got out sold 50 is the same 50 we meet in 2003 Kanye has improved as a producer and improved lyrically since his debut album and that is the key to longevity in the music business you can’t keep putting out the same records over and over and expect people not to get board. They way I see it 50 should thank god Kanye drop on the same day because he had 0 buzz around his album before Kanye came along and I’m not sure he would have broken 500,000 with out all the Kanye hype.

Yo if these dudes didn’t hype their album release dates… they wouldve sold a lot less like maybe 400K each. But 50 never was a great lyricist, he just hyped him image to death. Can you say that 660,000 is bad though? Thats better than all the rappers out this year including T.I

@cutieonduty half of what Kanye sold Def Jam bought it’s so obvious. Check 50’s and Kanye’s track records obviously U don’t know what you are talking about. Curtis is a hot album and 50 will still sell more after all is said and done. CURTIS!!!!!!!

the point of the all this rhetoric here anyway is that ye BODIED fif beyond any social redemption. live with it. he made a better album; promoted it strategically; and delivered the goods. 50 shouldn’t withdraw his threat ( i reject that), he should quit making albums: all three albums have been rehashed vesrions of each other. it was fresh on GRODT, it’s stale chatter now.

Since when does singing the same thing over and over again (i.e. a hook) constitute being a good lyricst? All that shyt he put out sounds the same too. Now when you talk about nas, scarface, pac, weezy, Bun-B, trick, jadakiss and even jay ( when he not rhyming some shyt somebody else already said…still luv him though), those are hot MC’s.

Kanye has more dept, talent, and substance in his pinky finger than what fifty has in his whole state of being. and where they do that shyt at…just spend money on one person because they don’t like another. Why would they spend money on Kanye’s album if they didn’t really want it. They would just not buy “fifty’s” shyt, and keep their money. See what it is…Kanye actually has a larger fan base, but we’re living in the age of bootlegging. So typically, no he probably wouldn’t have sold that many records. However this time, considering the circumstances, his fans apparently decided to rise to the occasion, and support him to make “sure” their fav rapper sold the most. Jay said it best…men lie, women lie, but numbers don’t fool.
