The South had dumbed down hip hop to the point where this is a hit record and dance..

    its down right stupid..

i’ve stopped listening to southern artists…

i could cut out half my brain with a rusty knife and be more creative then all of them combined..

  2. damn Says:

Is omarion and Bow wow a couple damn!

  3. Mouth of da South Says:

I admit, this is not a lyrical onslaught or an insightful revelation of musical genius, but you can’t just blame the south for putting out silly songs with silly dances. Have you already forgotten “Chicken noodle soup” and “Aunt Jackie” both New York artists, with ignorant lyrics and a dance to match.

So ………., while you’re entitled to your opinion about my region of the country, don’t put us all in the same box, and understand that there is a place in hip hop for every aspect of the music.

    shiiitt!
that shit is fly to see a sophisticated chick in heels do that (without the super hype stuff of course)
i was in a club in atlanta a few weeks ago and this chick turned me the hell on!
though entire club was doin the dance…
im from philly so to see that shit tripped me out!
i immediately went home and downloaded it.
and he be poppin it in the video!
it reminds me of the big daddy kane era…

“and if we get to fighting then im cockin on your bitch ass!”

    :)

The first time i heard soulja boy i was thinkin why in the fuck would anybody listen to this bullshit that took 5 minutes on fruity loops to make. but after hearing this song hundreds of fucking times it finally got catchy. I can respect this nigga as an..artist or w/e you wanna call him cuz he has created some new shit but….

unfortunately the south and this bullshit snap music is progressively dumbing down the black youth/race with every track.

go write down the lyrics to any of his songs (trust me this nigga has plenty) and see if you get anything valid out of it.

respect cuz the nigga got signed or w/e but how many dances can one make?

  6. PA is here Says:

This shit is getting ridiculous. Every song from the south is garbage. It’s giving real hip-hop a bad name. Hopefully its just a temorarily trend and it dies within the next few years. It seems like any guy that has a certain look, knows the right people and makes up some stupid ass dance can sign a deal now. No lyrical skills whatsoever.

    hip hop is truly dead

  8. FIDDY Says:

I CAN’T BELIEVE HIP HOP HAS GOTTEN TO THIS LEVEL!

OH, I FORGOT TO MENTION THEY ARE MARKETABLE,MY BOYS ARE FINE ASS HELL.THIS KID SOULJA BOT IS FLAVA FLAV SON,RIGHT?! LMAO!

  9. SouthernBred Says:

Run-DMC……Melle mel…..BDP….That is Hip -Hop…… UGK …..Eightball & MJG….Outkast ….. Goodie MOB ….That is Southern Rap ….. Soulja Boy is something created in a booth to make KIDS ….dance !!!

  10. Carl Ayers Says:

Sure, there may be nothing substantial in his lyrics, but I’d rather my young relatives listen to some “rap/hip-hop” music that they can dance to rather than them listening to someone rap about selling drugs, driving (rented) cars, sex, and smoking weed.

In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with goofy lyrics and silly dances. There’s enough room in the market for everyone. And if this type of music wasn’t marketable/profitable, these artists wouldn’t be getting signed.

A lot of people complain that hip hop is dead, but there are variations and subcultures to hip-hop, just as there are for any culture and lifestyle.

  11. Carl Ayers Says:

And Fiddy, stop pimpin your kids. Did you attend one of Joe Jackson’s seminars in Vegas?

  12. T Money Says:

Well Said Carl…people make it seem like hip hop has only one form…music follows whats going on in society so it’s always changing and growing…

  13. FIDDY Says:

CARL AYERS, I DON’T HAVE TO PIMP MY KIDS,I WAS ONLY JOKIN!!!!MY SON IS ALREADY HEADED TO THE NFL! SO SUCK ON THAT!!!!!

  14. dcb Says:

I think people are getting too into the whole hip-hop is dead thing, the South is doing that, yada yada yada. IT’S MUSIC!!!!! It’s not all going to be soul searching, intellect grabbing, power to the people type stuff. It’s entertainment!!! Some people are making music to have fun with. That’s all this is!! It’s for kids and people that like to dance or whatever. Since when can’t music be fun and for people to dance to. It’s music!!! Most music is supposed to make you dance!!! If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it, go listen to Blakstarr, Common, or Nas if you want “hip-hop”. Let some folks enjoy themselves, geez!!

  15. Da Vinci Says:

    thank you dcb…great point

  16. PA is here Says:

Hip-hop is hip-hop. There is no variations and this is not it. This is POP music.

    hit me up on myspace

  21. shay Says:

mann souljha boy is soooooooooooooooo got damnnnnnnnnnnnnn fine

  22. Ripcord Randy Says:

Wow, talk about dumbed down. I may never understand the uppercase/lowercase writing style, shay. But can you at least PRETEND that you have some semblance of intelligence? Maybe you should go back to school and actually learn how to use uppercase letters instead of hanging out on myspace, talking on the cell phone and listening to never-ending mindless permutations of 808 drum beats and three-note melodies.

A year from now, people will be saying “Soulja who?”, but meanwhile they’ve got YOU hook, line and sinker. It’s easy targets like you who make it possible for talentless hacks like Soulja Boy to get record deals.
