The Worlds LARGEST Sailboat “The Maltese Falcon”

Monday, November 5th, 2007, 1:03 pm

This beauty “The Maltese Falcon” is owned by multi-billionaire Tom Perkins, who is credited with being one of the founders of leading venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers.

This yacht has been rented by the tons and tons of celebrities and dignitaires.  It’s guest list has included Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch.

Fun Facts About “Maltese Falcon” (Wikipedia):

The yacht is easily controlled and has been seen to sail off her anchor and away from berths within harbors. The yacht’s sophisticated computer detects parameters such as wind speed automatically and displays key data, however Perkins does not permit the computer to actually sail the yacht. An operator must always activate the controls, yet it is possible for a single person to pilot the yacht.

The Falcon has two 1800 horse-power Deutz engines running at 1800 rpm with a top speed of 20 knots with minimal wave-making and virtually no vibration or noise and with a smooth and non-turbulent wake.

The yacht has a permanent crew of 18 to maintain the technical aspects including the rig and to operate the onboard “hotel”, which can accommodate twelve guests plus four guest staff.

PRICE: (Between $150 - $300 Million Dollars)

This man has all the top cars in the world. He is the first to have a yacht that has a computerized sail lift!! this boat is bad as shit!! And he won’t disclose how much he paid for the boat so lifefiles is guessing!! This boat is awesome!!

Not into sailing myself, but saw the 60 Minutes segment on it and what I found most interesting was how humble Mr. Perkins was. Being a struggling business man it’s nice to see a successful one not rubbing the cost in everyones face. Simply amazing architecture and design though.
